The Job/What You'll Do:
The Manager of Accounting supervises the accounting staff, analyzes and prepares financial reports for company leadership, oversees the month-end closing process, and develops standards and processes for proper financial management. The Manager assists the VP of Finance and CFO with various financial administrative tasks.
To succeed, you should be adept at performing a variety of financial activities, including planning, analysis, and reporting. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills are essential. You should also be able to present financial information and models concisely and understandably.
Responsibilities:
Assist the VP of Finance with financial administrative tasks and preparing new financial reports for departments/programs.
Maintain and create reports within Great Plains and Management Reporter.
Develop and maintain cost allocation methods and fundraising accounting.
Supervise and train Senior, Staff‑level, and Junior Staff Accountants.
Oversee the month‑end close cycle and ensure timely completion.
Analyze balance sheets and general ledger accounts for financial record maintenance.
Review and analyze data to guide investment and financial decisions related to retirement plans, administrative costs, and plan expenditures.
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including statement of cash flows, and conduct trend analysis of financial statements and explain variances.
Prepare monthly budget for actual analysis reports and assist in preparation of the annual budget.
Assist in audit schedules, working with auditors including single audits, and troubleshoot payroll and accounts payable.
Maintain accounting controls by following policies and procedures and complying with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements.
Perform other accounting and administrative tasks as delegated.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Present financial information to a non‑financial audience.
Working knowledge of financial strategies.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Detail‑oriented and able to perform in a high‑pressure environment.
Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP, Oracle, or related financial systems.
Act professionally and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and staff.
Education & Experience:
8+ years industry experience, 4+ years leadership.
Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
Financial Analysis and General Ledger Accounting; Financial Reporting; Budget Experience.
