Eligibility and Requirements
3+ years recent experience in Cardiology Profee EM coding.
Surgeon Cardiology experience preferred.
Active certified through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC or higher). > CPC-A level required.

Position Summary This position evaluates medical records, provides clinical and surgical abstraction for complex range of professional services, uses coding knowledge to support department projects, validation edits and revisions.
Core Functions
Analyzes medical information, accurately codes diagnostic and procedural information per national guidelines, consults with providers, ensures timely and accurate coding.
Abstracts diagnoses, procedures, and other pertinent medical record information into the EMR, seeks missing information, creates complete records.
Provides quality assurance for medical records, ensures compliance with coding rules and regulations under state Medicaid plans, CMS, OIG, and professional standards.
Compiles daily and monthly reports; tabulates data for research or analysis.
Identifies validation edits and revision issues to ensure compliant coding.
Recognizes and distinguishes complex diagnoses and procedures; details needed corrections for reimbursement and compliance.
Works independently under supervision, uses specialized knowledge for accurate assignment of ICD/CPT codes per national guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent. At least one of: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, active status with AAPC or AHIMA. Three or more years complex professional coding experience within specialty. Knowledge and understanding of ICD and CPT coding principles.
Preferred Qualifications Specialty certification, radiology certified coder if imaging space. Experience in large multi-system physician practice. Additional related education or experience preferred.
