Director of Information Technology Join to apply for the Director of Information Technology role at City of New York. Responsibilities

Lead the development and execution of DOP’s IT strategy and roadmap, emphasizing equity, transparency, accessibility, security, and compliance.

Oversee core IT operations including network infrastructure, systems administration, enterprise applications, cybersecurity, cloud services, and service desk support.

Direct and coordinate the activities of the four OIT groups to ensure seamless service delivery and operational excellence.

Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of complex technology projects, ensuring alignment with agency goals, timelines, and budgets.

Champion data governance and integration efforts to promote secure, transparent, and efficient data sharing across internal teams and external partners.

Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on digital transformation, systems modernization, cybersecurity risk management, and IT operations.

Supervise vendor procurement, contract negotiation, and performance management to ensure cost-effective and compliant service delivery.

Build, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary IT team, fostering a culture of innovation, equity, and accountability.

Collaborate with NYC OTI, NYC Cyber Command, NYS ITS, and other external partners to ensure DOP’s systems meet public safety and citywide standards.

Maintain a proactive approach to cybersecurity, including risk assessments, incident response planning, and compliance with city and state regulations.

Support continuous improvement initiatives and adoption of emerging technologies to enhance service delivery and operational resilience.

Hours/shifts are dependent on the needs of the Department. Candidates may be required to work various shifts including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication, or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or

An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.

Preferred Skills

Proven experience leading enterprise IT operations in a public sector or mission-driven organization, at least 5 years.

Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

Demonstrated success managing large-scale technology projects and cross-functional teams.

Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), enterprise applications, and modern infrastructure tools.

Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Experience working with citywide IT entities such as NYC OTI and NYC Cyber Command is a plus.

PMP, CISSP, or other relevant certifications preferred.

Salary Salary range: $75,000.00 – $160,000.00.
