Systems and Software Engineer - J0048516 Astemo Ltd.

is seeking a Systems and Software Engineer to join the Brake Business Unit located in Farmington Hills, MI. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and refining brake system features, including algorithm and model development, simulation, verification, validation, and comprehensive documentation. This role collaborates with cross‑functional teams to create innovative mobility solutions.

Job Responsibilities

Review and understand customer requirements for brake control systems, performing technical analysis.

Collaborate closely with global cross‑functional teams to develop new algorithms/models or update existing brake control models.

Execute real‑world evaluation of brake system controls & ECU features via MIL/SIL/HIL, identifying system problems/issues.

Coordinate root‑cause analysis with internal and overseas function teams to ensure delivered system meets feature requirements.

Perform experiments and analyze data, creating new techniques and evaluation reports.

Develop technical documentation, design specifications, and best practices guides for brake systems.

Share knowledge and expertise with internal teams and stakeholders to foster learning and collaboration.

Perform additional projects & tasks assigned to support the overall mission, vision & goals of our department.

Travel to customer locations to support product development, including product reviews, testing, and demonstrations (up to 15%).

Represent the company with its major customers and the public.

Ensure legal compliance in all engineering product design activities.

Support all business objectives of the company by aligning Design Engineering activities with the organizational goals.

Maintain a safe workplace and follow all regulations and requirements related to safety and environmental compliance.

Develop product development plans with emphasis on managing timing, cost, complexity, and risk.

Perform requirement sorting to identify pure software and pure hardware requirements and disseminate to appropriate teams.

Conceptualize test fixtures, simulated loads, and tester system diagrams to support bench, environmental, and EMC testing.

Construct, deliver, and maintain system block diagrams and system DFMEAs.

Lead effort and deliver hardware/software interface specifications and functional control algorithms.

Participate in all hardware and software design reviews ensuring smooth implementation of requirements.

Comply with ISO / TS 16949 responsibilities, Health & Safety (H&S) rules and practices.

Perform any other assignments from time‑to‑time as management directs.

Qualifications

Knowledge of brake system control function.

Programming skills in C/C++ and MATLAB/Simulink.

Experience with in‑vehicle communication protocols (CAN/Ethernet/etc.) and tools such as Vector CANape, CANalyzer, and dSpace Control Desk.

Ability to carry out system‑level integration (including hardware and software) within a vehicle.

Ability to make test plans and execute experiments.

Experience using Model‑Based Development tools and virtual validation methods for brake controls & ECU (MATLAB/Simulink, Stateflow, CarMaker).

Familiarity with hardware and software simulators such as dSpace/LabVIEW.

Verification proficiency (e.g., design verification methods, data acquisition/analysis, hardware‑in‑the‑loop).

Excellent writing and communication skills; proficiency in Japanese (speaking and reading) is a plus.

Education Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related area required; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience 2 years prior related industrial experience preferred; minimum 3 years preferred with Bachelor’s degree. Previous industrial experience in brake controls is preferred. Exposure to Automotive engineering is required.

Working Conditions and Travel Required to sit or stand for long periods. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Domestic and international travel may be required as needed (up to 15%).

Work Environment Primarily in a professional business office with exposure to testing areas and periodic exposure to manufacturing environments.
