Senior HiL Test Engineer - Battery Software

Newark, CA Overview Lucid Motors seeks a Senior Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) Test Engineer to join the Battery Software team. This role requires deep expertise in embedded software verification, HiL systems, and power electronics. The ideal candidate will design and maintain HiL test environments, develop automated test solutions, and validate critical battery software features in high-voltage applications. You Will Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate advanced battery monitoring and energy management features. Design and implement HiL electrical architecture based on system requirements, including signal conditioning, power distribution, and safety interlocks. Develop and configure dSPACE SCALEXIO HiL systems using ConfigurationDesk and ControlDesk. Create and execute test plans for safety-critical BMS functionalities such as SOC, SOH, SOP, Charging controls and thermal management. Develop closed-loop plant models in MATLAB/Simulink to simulate battery behavior and integrate them into HiL systems. Automate test cases using ECU-TEST, Python, CAPL, and other scripting tools. Conduct ECU-level testing using SIL and HiL setups, ensuring robust software integration and system behavior. Troubleshoot test failures, hardware issues, and communication faults using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies) and tools like Vector CANoe, CANape, and CANalyzer. Support continuous improvement of test automation frameworks, coverage, and reporting processes. You Bring 4+ years of experience in automotive embedded software verification and HiL testing. Proven experience with dSPACE HiL systems, including SCALEXIO, ConfigurationDesk, and ControlDesk. Strong background in HiL electrical architecture design and power electronics relevant to battery systems. Expertise in MATLAB/Simulink for plant model development and integration into HiL systems. Proficiency in ECU-TEST, Python, CAPL, and other scripting languages for test automation. In-depth understanding of BMS features such as SOC, SOH, SOP, and charging/discharging characteristics. Familiarity with networking devices and communication protocols (CAN, LIN, RS-232, USB, Automotive Ethernet). Ability to design and build test benches and integrate test automation tools. Excellent documentation skills for test planning, execution, and reporting. Preferred Qualifications Experience with lithium-ion battery behavior and battery algorithms. Exposure to commercial EV charging systems and their integration. Knowledge of Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines for test automation. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Compensation and Benefits Base Pay Range (Annual): $154,000 - $211,750 USD Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k.
