Assistant Director of Residential Support and Accountability – UM Housing The University of Montana invites applications for the Assistant Director of Residential Support and Accountability for UM Housing. This position oversees residential student care and support initiatives, manages UM Housing community standards procedures, and works with Area Coordinators and Community Directors to supervise staff, coordinate curriculum and social programs, and develop living‑learning activities. The role is responsible for crisis response, student conduct and support, and maintaining a positive, safe, and inclusive community in residence halls and apartments.

Responsibilities

Directly supervise full‑time Area Coordinators, Community Directors, paraprofessionals, and other staff; provide leadership for department initiatives.

Implement and manage the UM Housing student conduct and community standards program, including process coordination, staff assignments, accountability, and ongoing training of Community Standards Officers.

Coordinate and manage student-of-concern outreach, tracking, and collaboration with campus partners; lead elevated student concern cases not managed by the Dean of Students office.

Serve as a Level Five Maxient Administrator; develop processes for tracking and reporting on Community Standards and CARE/student-of-concern cases.

Serve as the Senior Clery Compliance Officer for UM Housing, track Clery reportable crimes, and maintain the Campus Fire Log.

Oversee development of crisis and on‑call response procedures and staff training; analyze student conduct trends to guide staff in behavior management, assessment, and reporting.

Conduct research on national housing/community standards trends and compare with current department policy for strategic planning.

Provide leadership for departmental safety and security procedures, including building security inspections, health and safety inspections, and employee accountability.

Participate in an on‑call duty rotation for the UM Housing community 365 days a year and respond to situations as needed.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel Administration, Public Administration, Counseling, or equivalent; four (4) years of progressive experience in housing management, community standards/student conduct position, or related field.

Strong knowledge of housing and/or community standards, student personnel administration, staff training and supervision, and diversity issues common within university housing.

Ability to understand and use technology in the office; maintain electronic and paper records, use Microsoft Office, Maxient, StarRez, or similar databases and spreadsheets.

Excellent communication skills—both oral and written—with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Organizational skills to manage an evolving workload, multitask, and prioritize responsibilities with little supervision.

Ability to coordinate work schedules with staff, students, faculty, guests, and visitors to meet customer and building needs.

Ability to formulate and enforce policies, complete strategic planning, and develop short‑ and long‑term goals within the UM Housing operation.

Familiarity with safety and security systems, including fire safety, and training staff on emergency response procedures.

Willingness to participate in an on‑call duty rotation 365 days a year and respond to emergencies as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with conference housing program.

Experience analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, group dynamics, crisis management, and problem solving.

Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks; train staff, evaluate performance, and communicate effectively.

Capacity to work nights and weekends during certain periods and respond to emergency situations.

Leadership in addressing student quality‑of‑life issues, enforcing policies, coordinating services, and responding to crises and emergencies.
