Overview
Traveling General Superintendent- Aviation at JE Dunn Construction. This role reports into the National Aviation Vertical and requires 100% travel to project sites in the United States. The General Superintendent will develop and execute the project plan and oversee all aspects of assigned projects with significant complexity. This position will be responsible for managing the team, planning all construction sequencing and meeting project goals. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn. Responsibilities - Core
Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture and creates awareness by demonstrating a commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed. Provides management of subcontractors and organization of the overall job and workflow. Manages and oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers and programs such as Safety, Quality and EEO for a small project or a major portion of a larger project. Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work. Coordinates and manages the care, custody and control of the project site. Leads various meetings including daily standup and weekly trade meetings; attends, manages and participates in appropriate progress and/or project OAC meetings. Creates, manages, changes and implements the project’s schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager. Tracks and monitors project budget and costs using project management systems and data from the project manager. Communicates key project information to owners, design team, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and other departments. Maintains project filing and documentation system; updates drawings, logs, diaries and inspection notebooks. Approves and/or records unit cost information for weekly reports and completes daily reports, logs and tracking reports. Evaluates progress on self-perform work and makes adjustments as needed. Manages material and equipment needs for the project. Supports procurement and approval processes; assists in selecting formwork, tools and equipment for self-perform operations. Manages timecard approval process to ensure accurate hours and proper cost codes. Ensures quality compliance through specifications, quality standards, QA/QC and outside resources. Supports project closeouts by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with the owner, architect and governing authorities. Participates in project pursuit process and methodology; assists in project pre-plans and lifecycle execution. Partners with field leadership to establish field staffing and identify schedule/cost impacts of project changes; negotiates with owner/architect for project changes. Participates in project reviews, buy-out meetings with subcontractors and vendors; understands and applies owner and subcontractor contracts. Responsible for identifying and recruiting top talent; promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion in JE Dunn. Responsibilities - Additional Core
Manages the largest, most complex stand-alone and/or multiple complex projects from initial planning to completion. Provides management and/or oversight to multiple projects and project teams. Leads and executes company and regional strategic initiatives; contributes to development of training content and internal subject matter experts. Delivers leadership messages to internal and external audiences. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Accurate, timely work with strong communication (verbal and written). Effective presentation skills. Proficiency in MS Office and project management software (intermediate). Fundamentals of construction management and knowledge of project processes supporting successful completion. Ability to build relationships within and outside the team; knowledge of trades, self-perform and labor productivity. Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability and generate future work through relationships. Understanding of document changes and their impact on project schedule; knowledge of layout, crane flagging and rigging, productivity rates and cost management. Ability to work with Lean processes and philosophy; knowledge of scheduling software. Education
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred). In lieu of the above, equivalent relevant experience will be considered. Experience
12+ years construction experience. 10+ years field supervision experience. Experience leading Lean principles on projects (Preferred). Working Environment
