Overview
Traveling General Superintendent- Aviation role at JE Dunn Construction. This role reports into our National Aviation Vertical and requires 100% travel to project sites in the United States. Role summary: The General Superintendent will develop and execute the project plan and oversee all aspects of assigned projects with significant complexity. This position will be responsible for managing the team, planning all construction sequencing and meeting project goals. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn. Key Responsibilities - Core
Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture and creates awareness by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed. Provides management of subcontractors and organization of the overall job and workflow. Manages and oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers and programs such as Safety, Quality and EEO for a small project or a major portion of a larger project. Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work. Coordinates and manages the care, custody and control of the project site. Leads various meetings including daily standup and weekly trade meetings; attends and participates in appropriate progress and/or project OAC meetings. Creates, manages, changes and implements the project schedule with the Project Manager as needed. Tracks and monitors project budget and costs using the project management system and data from the Project Manager. Communicates key project information to owners, design team, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and other departments. Follows project filing and documentation systems; updates drawings, logs, diaries and inspection notebooks; completes daily/weekly reports and logs. Evaluates progress on self-perform work and makes adjustments as needed. Manages material and equipment needs for the project; supports MOC and DLSC procurement and approval processes. Assists in selecting formwork, tools and equipment for self-perform operations; manages timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and proper cost codes. Ensures quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC and outside resources; supports project closeouts with pre-punch activities and coordination with owners, architects and authorities. Gains understanding of the project pursuit process and methodology; participates in project pre-plans and lifecycle adjustments; partners with field leadership to establish staffing and manage schedule and cost changes. Participates in owner/architect negotiations for project changes and in project review meetings; supports project buy-out meetings with subcontractors and vendors. Understands and applies owner/subcontractor contracts; identifies and recruits top talent; promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion and adheres to JE Dunn’s non-discrimination policy. Manages the largest, most complex stand-alone and/or multiple complex projects from initial planning to completion. Provides oversight to multiple projects and project teams and contributes to regional strategic initiatives. Participates in development of training content and development of internal subject matter experts; delivers leadership messages to diverse audiences. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills; proficient in MS Office and project management software. Ability to apply construction management fundamentals and project processes to ensure successful project completion. Ability to build relationships, manage budgets, and drive productivity and profitability; knowledge of Lean principles and scheduling software. Knowledge of self-perform trades, crane flagging and rigging, and cost management; ability to interpret document changes and their impact on schedules. Ability to recruit, develop and lead diverse teams across multiple projects. Education
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred). Equivalents in relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree. Experience
12+ years construction experience. 10+ years field supervision experience. Experience leading Lean on projects (Preferred). Working Environment
