DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS) is a division united in the service of students. The division provides campus-wide coordination and leadership for student success programs, activities, and initiatives, and works with resource centers dedicated to providing direct student support. The division strives for educational equity, institutional responsibility, and supporting the whole student, with a commitment to belonging, and engages with campus leadership, faculty, students, and staff across the campus.

JOB SUMMARY The Student Involvement Coordinator in the Center for Leadership and Involvement plays a vital role in helping all UC Santa Cruz students find meaningful ways to connect, engage, and belong. This position is responsible for developing and implementing campus-wide programs, initiatives, and involvement opportunities that foster connection, community, and student engagement across diverse populations.

The Coordinator will collaborate with campus partners, student organizations, and peer leaders to design inclusive, developmentally appropriate programs that support students in building relationships, exploring interests, and contributing to campus life. This in-person position supports the university's goals of equity, belonging, retention, and student success.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION Budgeted Salary:

$85,000 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES 45% - Program Development & Event Coordination

Design, plan, and implement campus-wide programs and initiatives that promote student involvement and build community (e.g., Welcome Week events, Involvement Fairs, SlugFest).

Coordinate ongoing involvement initiatives and engagement opportunities throughout the academic year.

Collaborate with departments and student organizations to co-host events that increase visibility and access to involvement.

Lead late night and weekend programming.

Work with units such as Student Organizations, Media, Cultural Arts (SOMeCA), College Student Life, Resource Centers, Academic Divisions, Undergraduate Education, etc. to co-create involvement pathways and programming.

30% - Student Support & Peer Leader Development

Recruit, train, and supervise a team of student peer ambassadors or event assistants.

Evaluate performance and provide feedback to student ambassadors or event assistants.

Facilitate workshops or presentations on topics related to involvement, engagement, and student leadership.

Collaborate with faculty and staff to design inclusive, developmentally appropriate curriculum rooted in student development theory and equity frameworks.

Support students in applying leadership skills in co-curricular contexts, such as student organizations, peer mentorship, or event planning roles.

15% - Administrative Leadership

Perform administrative tasks related to contract negotiations, budget management, and event coordination.

Develop outreach strategies and marketing materials (digital, print, and in-person) to promote involvement opportunities.

Maintain social media presence and assist in developing digital content that reflects UCSC's values of access and engagement for all.

Track attendance, collect student feedback, and assess program effectiveness and impact on engagement and belonging.

Use data to inform future programming and recommend improvements to the student involvement ecosystem.

10% - Other Duties As Assigned

Participates in team-wide meetings and events.

Serves on divisional and campus wide committees, task forces, and working groups.

Drives a university-owned vehicle and/or a personal vehicle to perform various tasks related to the functions of the position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience/training in student engagement, campus programming, or a related area.

Demonstrated experience planning, implementing and evaluating large-scale programs and events.

Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to independently manage a variety of projects with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities, to organize a continuous flow of work in a timely manner and meet mandatory deadlines.

Understanding of the role that involvement and co-curricular engagement play in student development and retention.

Commitment to belonging and engagement in higher education.

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Excellent written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree or equivalent knowledge/experience in higher education student affairs administration or related field.

Affiliation with a professional organization such as NASPA, ACPA, ACUHO-I, etc.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.

Selected candidate must pass the employment misconduct disclosure process.

Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California and participate in the DMV pull notice program.

Must work primarily on campus, with periods of remote work possible based on operational needs. If a hybrid schedule is confirmed, must be able to work from a home/remote office and meet UCSC telecommuting requirements.

Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends.

Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus.

Complete training within established time frames including UC compliance training.

Vaccination policy compliance for all employees.

CANRA Mandated Reporter: required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect and to sign a CANRA acknowledgment prior to employment.
