Overview

Procurement Manager role at NewMarket Corporation. This position is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted, cost-effective supply of a portfolio of raw materials, goods and services to support business goals and operations, including production, contract manufacturing, R&D and corporate functions. The role typically manages more than $100MM in annual spend with a high level of complexity and business critical materials. The role is approximately 70% strategic and 30% tactical procurement and works with very limited direction and guidance. May supervise employees. Responsibilities

Define and implement long-term sourcing strategies at regional and global levels for specific raw materials, products, and services, coordinating across regions. Understand raw material markets, drivers, and interdependencies. Identify and manage factors influencing availability and pricing. Anticipate, manage and communicate significant market changes. Develop and manage supplier relationships and performance to align with key business objectives (cost, quality, delivery, safety, business continuity, sustainability, payment terms, inventory, new products). Lead supplier-focused projects to reduce cost and improve performance. Negotiate with suppliers to improve price and supply conditions. Ensure commercial terms are optimized, supply is maintained, contracts are implemented, and SAP data is current. Identify and implement new sources of raw materials within existing portfolio and new technologies that enable competitive advantage; sponsor and support qualifications and approvals. Develop and maintain forecasts (volume and price) for use with suppliers and the internal teams, including the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) process. Lead best-practice procurement processes and tools (RFPs/RFQs, negotiations, vendor selection and qualification, supplier relationship management, performance, and contract development). Monitor quality and consistency of raw materials, products, and services. Resolve supplier quality issues and drive improvement through collaboration with Process Technology, R&D and Manufacturing. Consult with cross-functional partners to provide market dynamics, pricing initiatives, quality, service, and supply chain insights. May supervise employees, facilitate career development and manage performance. Qualifications

Education & Experience Minimums

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering (strongly preferred) or related fields. 10+ years of strategic procurement/sourcing experience with increasing responsibility; strong negotiation, strategic planning, project management, influencing, and leadership capabilities. Thorough knowledge of procurement in SAP environment with 10+ years of procurement experience. Strong experience using SAP, Tableau and MS Office for detailed business analytics and communications. Education & Experience Preferred

Advanced degree (Masters or MBA) preferred. Experience in petroleum additive, lubricant, or chemical industries. CPSM or similar certification (e.g., CIPS). Lean Six Sigma experience/certification. An appropriate combination of education and experiences may replace one or more of the specific requirements above. Skills/Abilities

Effective complex strategic negotiation, facilitation, and conflict management. Self-starter with strong business acumen and ability to align procurement with business goals and market trends. Prior people leadership experience. Excellent listening, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to lead through influence and build consensus. Strong strategic and analytical procurement approach; knowledge of strategic sourcing principles. Knowledge of contract writing and management. Experience with SAP & MS Office applications. Team-oriented leadership focused on continuous improvement and best practices. Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines; quick learner of processes and tools.
