Senior Component Design Engineer - Bearings, Sumps, and Seals
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Working Pattern: Fulltime
As a Senior Component Design Engineer for gas turbine gears, bearings, shafts, and seals you will be part of the global Turbomachinery Engineering, Technology & Safety organization. You will develop complex engineering solutions that satisfy cutting-edge aerospace functional and physical requirements and also exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability. Within your assigned propulsion system program, you’ll be responsible for developing, assessing, and delivering high-performance gas turbine transmission systems that push the envelope with performance, life, and efficiency.
What You Will Be Doing
Develop and deliver new component designs for high-performance gas turbine gears, bearings, shafts, and seals, including design concepts, optimization to final definition, preparing technical presentations and documents, performing dimensional analyses, supporting creation of drawings, delivering hardware for validation, and releasing hardware to production.
Perform strength and lifing analyses for gas turbine gears, bearings, shafts, and seals to substantiate suitability for new engine applications and extended performance of existing engines.
Present and defend design solutions and technical work to program leadership and other stakeholders.
Support the supply chain in procuring hardware including review of supplier production method documentation, assessment of non-conforming hardware, and review of supplier change proposals.
Support manufacturing, assembly, service, and aftermarket issues promptly as they arise to keep production on target and the fleet in operation.
Lead investigations of in-service and/or development hardware issues including failure analysis, root cause / corrective action (RCCA), reporting, and documentation. Share findings with the global turbomachinery team in accordance with export control regulations.

Basic Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of mechanical design experience, OR
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, OR
PhD in Mechanical Engineering
U.S. Citizen for eligibility
Preferred Requirements
Demonstrated experience in design, analysis, and verification of complex aerospace mechanical components and/or systems.
Experience progressing designs/changes through a gated design review process.
6+ years of experience with aerospace power transmission components, including gears, rolling element bearings, shafts, and seals; with relevant design tools and codes.
Expertise in dimensional tolerance stack-ups and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Knowledge of gas turbine subsystems and components and their function and operation.
Expertise in Siemens NX, Siemens Teamcenter, Microsoft Excel.
