Overview
Job Description: Pay Range: $18hr - $21hr
Responsibilities
The Specimen Processor I (SPT I) is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
This role requires strong data entry skills and attention to detail.
The SPT I performs various specimen handling and processing tasks with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness while maintaining compliance with all regulations.
The position operates in a production environment with an emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and meeting departmental deadlines.
Perform specimen processing tasks including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting
Ensure accuracy and timeliness in all specimen handling and documentation
Maintain strong organization skills to manage various specimen types and tests ordered by clients
Learn and apply compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily
Adapt to frequent operational changes and customer demands with flexibility
Communicate effectively with all levels of staff
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in a biohazard environment
Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced setting
Meet productivity standards (6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour)
Work nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required
Skills

Ability to sit or stand for long periods
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to adapt to change and work in a production-driven environment
Qualifications and Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience
No prior experience required; laboratory or specimen processing experience preferred
Medical background with familiarity in medical terminology is a plus
Previous hospital laboratory or production environment experience preferred
Basic computer skills; knowledge of laboratory testing preferred
