Sr. Process Safety Engineer, Global Process Safety Engineering & Management, Workplace Health & Safety
The Workplace Health and Safety Technical Solutions Team seeks an accomplished Senior Process Safety Engineer to lead global initiatives in Process Safety Management (PSM) and Process Safety Engineering (PSE). In this high-impact role, you will ensure compliance with international, regional, and local regulations for highly hazardous chemical (HHC) processes across Amazon’s facilities worldwide. You will play a key role in designing, constructing, and operating projects involving alternative energy sources and HHC, strictly adhering to Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).
What you’ll do
Risk Management and Hazard Analysis: Lead or facilitate comprehensive PHAs such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA across global operations. Oversee the development of risk mitigation strategies and ensure the timely execution of corrective measures.
Risk Evaluation and Collaboration: Evaluate process safety risks, recommend effective controls, and coordinate the development of comprehensive process safety information. Act as a central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders to develop control solutions.
Regulatory Compliance and RAGAGEP Integration: Ensure compliance with global safety regulations, including OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, Seveso Directive, and equivalent standards, while applying RAGAGEP across HHC sites globally.
Governance and Framework Development: Develop and maintain a robust RBPS governance framework, including tools and processes that foster standardization and continuous improvement. Secure leadership commitment by defining roles, responsibilities, and resources to integrate process safety across all levels.
Alternative Energy Process Safety: Serve as a subject matter expert in alternative energy technologies, including hydrogen, biofuels, carbon capture, and solar/thermal systems. Drive the safe design, commissioning, and operation of these systems in collaboration with external partners and internal teams.
Global PSM Oversight: Spearhead the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of global PSM systems, ensuring consistency with CCPS RBPS pillars, local regulations, corporate standards, and industry best practices.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Define, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with CCPS guidance and corporate objectives. Deliver regular updates to senior leadership, highlighting progress, risks, and strategic recommendations.
Tool Development for Compliance: Create and implement tools to ensure compliance with OSHA PSM requirements, including conducting PHAs for hazard identification, analysis, and prioritization.
Training and Mentorship: Develop and deliver training programs on process safety topics, fostering a culture of continuous learning. Establish and report process safety metrics and share best practices across the organization.
Leadership and Organizational Development: Provide technical mentorship to regional and site teams to build process safety expertise throughout the organization. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Procurement) to embed safety in every phase of the asset lifecycle.
Incident Investigation and Audit Leadership: Lead or actively participate in incident investigations, risk assessments, and EHS self-assessments or audits to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Support: Support WHS programs and systems across the organization, including readiness to respond to emergencies when required.
Process Safety Leadership: Provide strategic leadership in process safety across all Amazon business units, ensuring alignment with Amazon's risk profile and safety standards for all proposed projects.
About The Team Our mission is to ensure the safe design and reliable operation of facilities that contain or use Highly Hazardous Chemicals (HHCs). We support Amazon in achieving the 2040 Climate Pledge responsibly and safeguarding the safety of our associates and the community.
Program Strategy: The team focuses on building a safety program that reduces HHC risks to as low as reasonably possible, establishing process safety frameworks for HHC processes, including Technology (Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analysis, Safe work practices), Facilities (Mechanical Integrity, Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews, Management of Change), Personnel (Process Safety Training, Incident Investigations), and Audit and Assurance (monitor program performance).
