Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides professional mental health services to inmates to include formal and informal mental health evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and clinical interventions. Assures accurate Information System mental health needs levels, including Psychiatric and Developmental Disability needs level codes. Provides group, brief, and individual therapy, and crisis intervention, including participation in 24-hour Mental Health On-Call Rotation. Assures both emergency and non-emergency transfer for inmates experiencing acute mental health needs. Provides clinical direction to non-clinical staff in mental health care and treatment of inmates. Assures continuity of care for inmates by making appropriate referrals and providing necessary information and documentation for receiving units, facilities, or agencies. Documents both handwritten and electronically to provide comprehensive inmate mental health records. Monitors inmate treatment and listens to inmate concerns, providing counseling and direction. Promotes and is accountable for safety and security of the clinical and correctional environment through observations and contraband control. Informs supervisor of safety violations, attends training programs, including self-defense as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy. Transcript copy required showing name, institution, degree, and conferral date. Current, valid permit or license from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies as one of: Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate, Licensed MFT, Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist Candidate, or Psychologist. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or doctoral degree in a mental health field from CACREP, CSWE, AAMFT/COAMFTE, or APA-accredited program. License eligible as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Psychologist. Experience providing mental health treatment in a correctional environment. Required Competencies
Provide professional mental health treatment to inmates; Independence and efficiency; Participation in 24-hour Mental Health On-Call Rotation; Excellent written and verbal communication; Interpersonal skills to collaborate across facility programs and external agencies; Ability to work independently and provide comprehensive clinical documentation; Maintain required registration/permit/licensure; Ability to work with a diverse inmate population; Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team; English language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking); Ability to create accessible documents following plain language guidelines; Self-control and resilience to work in stressful, potentially violent situations; Ability to remain alert and observant during shifts; Tolerance to stress and high-stakes interactions. Conditions of Employment
Must be 21 years of age; valid driver’s license with safe driving record; ability to operate a state vehicle as required. High school diploma or GED; no felony convictions as defined by policy; legally eligible to work in the United States (e-Verify). Successfully pass all modules of the CDOC Basic Training, including Defensive Tactics; health requirements and the ability to complete physical tasks. Willingness to travel and work various shifts; TB screening required for new employees. Additional Information
