Field Service Technician - BESS role at Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd. Perform a variety of technical assignments involving the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of string and central solar inverter and/or BESS systems, PCS, batteries, and ancillary equipment. Perform general troubleshooting and diagnosis under Sungrow’s maintenance and repair guidelines. Support and perform pre-commissioning (with and without grid emulator) and commissioning of solar inverters and BESS systems within schedule and work plans. For those on O&M capacity, perform Preventive Maintenance and other Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA) activities per the contract. Investigate solar plant issues such as DC array grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients; for BESS positions, investigations may involve SOC checks and component-level troubleshooting, replacement of parts, and software version updates. Provide feedback to the engineering and project team on possible mechanical and electrical design improvements. Lead upgrade/rework projects (software and hardware) in the field and communicate with customers to explain the technical scope and manage schedules. Work with customer SCADA engineers to set up systems communication and parameters involving Sungrow’s controllers and F&G systems as needed. Describe troubleshooting sequences and procedures observed, identify and document basic mechanical and electrical issues, and perform basic corrective maintenance. Create/modify Field Service procedures for safety troubleshooting and maintenance if required. When using contractors on sites, serve as Lead to ensure daily activity reports, JSA reports, and adherence to Sungrow standards. Prepare and submit Daily Activity Reports and Daily JSA Reports. Work independently in the field and with Design Engineers to resolve high-level technical issues and assist with root-cause investigations for technology applications. Coordinate with engineering, logistics, finance, and program management to maintain solar plant operations. Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures; complete documentation promptly and in an organized fashion; follow level-appropriate SOPs; own creation and submission of all field paperwork for site compliance. Serve as a safety second if needed. Education or Licenses
Associate’s Degree in an Engineering or Computer Science discipline from an accredited university or college Renewable industry experience is desired Power Electronics experience is desired OSHA 10 certificate within 12 months of date of hire NFPA 70e certificate within 12 months of date of hire Competencies
Strong demonstration of workplace safety practices Understanding and following a Safety Plan Conduct level-appropriate Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Authorized Person for LOTO Compliance with environmental safety requirements Ability to utilize and inspect appropriate safety and fall protection equipment Minimum Requirements
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Motivated self-starter with complex problem-solving abilities Accountability from idea to delivery in a metrics-driven environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to interact with diverse partners and senior managers 3+ years of experience in a technical field 2+ years of experience in solar inverters or BESS Ability to work with test equipment and hand tools Ability to follow instructions and pre-established SOPs OSHA, NFPA 70A, Electrical Safety familiarity Experience and/or certification with MV transformers is a plus Travel
