This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working day/evening/night/weekend shifts varying between 12:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Responsibilities
Provide clear and accurate ultrasound images to help physicians assess and diagnose various conditions.
Work with department and medical staff to create a calming and welcoming environment for patients during exams.
Ensure equipment is properly maintained and sterile to promote efficient delivery of care.
Put patients at ease, show compassion, and facilitate open communication to enhance the Cleveland Clinic experience.
Perform routine imaging, emergent and invasive procedures to detect pathology.
Safely operate equipment and maintain standards while performing procedures.
Provide copies of imaging studies and ensure electronic data is sent to the appropriate destination.
Inspect equipment for proper orientation and contact service if necessary.
Document in charts upon completion of procedures and maintain adequate supplies in the work area.
Minimum qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Sonography program.
Registered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or board eligible. If not already obtained, ARDMS registration is required within 18 months of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
Knowledge of federal and state regulations.
Preferred qualifications
Two years of experience as a Sonographer in an acute care imaging setting.
Physical requirements
Moderate to heavy work as defined in the Employee Health Services Policy.
Frequent walking, sitting and standing.
Frequent use of phone, computer and other office equipment.
Frequent pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
Mental demands: fast pace, prioritization of multiple tasks, collaboration with the healthcare team, problem solving and decision making, and tolerance of stress.
Special demands: self-starting, self-motivation, and hours that may exceed eight per day based on workload.
Confidentiality: limited access to medical records for verifying orders and signing off after exams.
PHI disclosures limited to the amount reasonably necessary to achieve the purpose of the request.
Routine disclosures include verifying patient orders prior to exams and ensuring correct exam is performed per doctor’s orders.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Follows Standard Precautions using PPE as required for procedures.
