Job Summary
Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives. Responsibilities
Patient Experience: Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience. Customer service leadership: Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including interpersonal habits that show care and Walgreens service traits such as curiosity to identify needs and proactively helping. Patient engagement: Connects with patients by anticipating needs and offering services. Leads efforts to enhance patient experience by increasing awareness of healthcare services offered through Walgreens (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services). Community involvement: Participates in events that reflect the communities served, as requested by leadership. Operations: Counsels patients on medicine usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, cost considerations, and OTC products. Refers to medical providers as needed to ensure proper medication use and satisfactory service. Pharmacy tasks: Performs compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets, and dispenses prescribed medications in accordance with regulations. Regulatory/compliance: Ensures the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations and policies; establishes efficient workflows, oversees scheduling, assigns roles, coordinates activities, and supports shift changes. Good Faith Dispensing: Ensures use of all elements of the Good Faith Dispensing policy in line with state and federal laws when filling prescriptions. Strategic & IT: Collaborates with Store Manager to develop strategic opportunities; maintains knowledge of pharmacy IT systems and supports staff and patients with technology to improve productivity. Insurance/claims: Ensures claims are processed accurately; resolves patient issues with insurers and providers and participates in third-party audits. Clinical communication: Follows up with medical providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; suggests alternatives and answers provider questions; conducts diagnostic testing and disease state management as appropriate. Clinical services: Performs immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease state management, and other healthcare services; partners with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution, including virtual product reviews per company procedures. Pharmacy maintenance: Manages maintenance, housekeeping, and improvement of the department, including repairs, cleaning, equipment, and layout changes to ensure a functional and presentable pharmacy. Documentation: Prepares and submits records and reports as required by law to run the business (e.g., operating statements, performance indicators, supervision notes, transfers). Staff hiring and discipline: Collaborates with Store Manager on hiring, handles discipline and termination as necessary, and ensures compliance with employment laws. Performance and development: Sets expectations and goals, promotes teamwork, and recognizes improvements; manages staff performance through training and formal reviews. Career progression: Identifies high-potential team members and collaborates on career development plans. Employee relations: Addresses concerns, maintains morale, resolves conflicts, and fosters positive working relationships. Training & Personal Development
Licensing and credentials: Maintains required licensing/credentialing/certification. Continuous learning: Maintains knowledge of pharmacy/healthcare trends and Walgreens communications; pursues best practices to enhance performance. Education credits: Completes required training and education modules. Professional development: Seeks feedback and engages mentors/coaches. Communications
Supports leadership by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy to staff. Business Performance Management
Data analysis: Analyzes performance data including financials, customer service, and inventory; manages asset protection and inventory management; identifies trends and improvement opportunities. Business Planning
Community relationships: Develops relationships with local medical professionals and promotes pharmacy services to support growth; participates in community health initiatives. External Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district. Certified Immunizer or willing to become one within 90 days of hire. At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including dispensing, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing (state requirements may supersede). Experience dispensing medications with knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws. Average leadership behavior rating of at least 3.0 on last performance review if available; no disciplinary actions in the last 12 months for internal candidates.
