With 204 beds, it is the third largest of Duke Health’s four hospitals and offers a comprehensive array of services, including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal, and wound healing care. General Description of the Job Class Apply ionizing radiation to patients (including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations) according to the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist, under the supervision of the Chief Therapist. Duties and Responsibilities Deliver the prescribed course of radiation therapy accurately with minimal supervision. Check prescription, diagnosis, chart, and patient identification. Explain procedures to patients, including communication during treatment and emergency protocols. Prepare treatment room and equipment, including immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, and lead protection. Safely transfer patients to the treatment couch, paying attention to catheters and IVs. Check daily treatment times and deliver prescribed doses. Maintain communication with the patient during treatment. Maintain patient markings and observe for reactions, reporting any issues promptly. Follow radiation safety measures for patients and staff. Perform simulations and assist in tumor localization and immobilization procedures. Assist in dosimetry calculations and obtain weekly port films for review. Participate in on-call rotations as required. Perform daily QA procedures and maintain treatment records. Handle mold room duties, secure supplies, and maintain equipment. Report equipment issues and participate in departmental quality improvement activities. Assist in hiring and training new staff, and attend departmental meetings and educational sessions. Qualifications Education:

Completion of a 24-month radiology or radiation therapy technology course, or a related qualification as specified. Experience:

One year of clinical training in Radiation Therapy. Licensure and Certification:

Current licensure as required, and certification or eligibility in Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, with ongoing continuing education. Skills and Abilities:
