Overview

Process Engineer-Continuous Improvement role at Graphic Packaging International. The Continuous Improvement Engineer will facilitate continuous improvement efforts throughout the mill through the development and implementation of best practices to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction. This will be accomplished through structured problem-solving events using Six Sigma/Lean methodologies and principles (e.g., 5S, Value Stream Mapping, SMED, TPM, Kaizen). This entry-level position provides technical support and leadership within the department, with potential for future supervisory roles. Key responsibility of this role is to provide support for process improvement projects, including chemicals, mechanical improvements, support for trials and investigations of new technologies. The Manufacturing Excellence Continuous Improvement Engineer will support the mill’s KPI management system, including updating operator rounds, auditing operations for out-of-range process variables, and working with management and hourly employees to correct out-of-range KPIs. Candidate should be a self-starter, self-directed, able to move ideas forward, committed, and able to work with and influence others. Must learn quickly and effectively perform data analysis with path forward recommendations.

Responsibilities

Facilitate Continuous Improvement efforts through Six Sigma/Lean methodologies. Lead Kaizen events using Kepner-Trego/Problem Analysis/Potential Problem Analysis tools Review daily production and quality data; analyze production and operation issues Implement manufacturing processes, troubleshoot process and equipment issues, collect and analyze data Assist with managing trials and identifying process improvements Analyze process trends to recommend corrective actions to reduce variability Analyze weekly and monthly process trends Assist in the preparation and implementation of the mill Annual Improvement Plan (AIP)

Education / Knowledge

Bachelor’s Degree - Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Science, or other engineering discipline Prefer 2-5 years’ work experience; pulp and paper industry preferred Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing experience preferred SAP system knowledge, team-building skills, union knowledge, and excellent communication skills
