Commissioning Engineer I/II – Data Center Location:
(Phoenix/Glendale, AZ), / U.S. – Travel Required (up to 75%) Contract:
12 Month Initial Contract (possible FTE conversion) About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer I/II to join a dynamic team responsible for delivering state-of-the-art data center environments. This role involves overseeing commissioning activities for base building systems, security, life safety, electrical, mechanical, and EPMS/BMS systems. You will serve as both a technical expert and project liaison, ensuring systems are installed, tested, and validated to the highest standards. This position requires hands‑on engagement with construction and commissioning activities, including occasional nights and weekends, as well as significant travel to data center sites across the U.S. Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute comprehensive commissioning plans for Level 1–5 systems, including electrical, mechanical, security, life safety, network infrastructure, and building automation. Conduct thorough testing, validation, and documentation of all commissioned systems. Identify, track, and resolve technical issues, collaborating with project teams and third‑party commissioning agents. Review and create detailed commissioning documentation, including test procedures, as‑built records, and reports. Witness equipment testing and validate operational procedures, SOPs, MOPs, and ERP protocols. Provide training to end‑users and maintenance personnel on commissioned systems. Implement quality control measures and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Support preventative and corrective maintenance using established change management processes. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent professional experience). Minimum five years of experience in data center engineering, commissioning, or project management. Background in building maintenance, CCTV/access control, network, telecommunications, and/or fire detection/suppression systems. Willingness and ability to travel extensively to other data center locations. Proficiency with MS Office Suite. U.S. Citizenship required due to federal customer contracts. Preferred Qualifications
Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in data centers. Knowledge of medium‑to‑low‑voltage electrical distribution systems. Experience with emergency backup systems (generators, UPS, battery backup). Experience with mechanical cooling solutions (Chillers, CRAH, CRAC, Pumps, Heat Exchangers). Familiarity with equipment operation, maintenance, single line drawings, and sequence of operations. Skills and Abilities
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to diagnose and correct system issues. Ability to develop technical plans and implement solutions effectively. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Team‑oriented mindset with strong collaboration capabilities. Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, walking, and performing other physical tasks as needed. Proficient with web‑based applications and standard office software.
