Overview The

Commissioning Engineer II

is responsible for Level 1–5 commissioning of base building systems, security systems, life safety systems, Electrical, Mechanical, and EPMS/BMS systems in a data center environment. This role oversees, documents, and tracks commissioning activities, including testing and validation of connectivity, network infrastructure, security, life safety, and other building subsystems and finishes, as well as electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, UPS, STS, PDU, cooling systems, and Building Management/Automation systems. The role will serve as a project manager and liaison to a third-party commissioning agent and may require work hours including nights and weekends to support construction/commissioning activities. This is a platform role that may require travel to other sites around the U.S.

Responsibilities

Assist in all site construction activity and installations, in coordination with the development team and external resources, to ensure design, installation and testing meet operational standards.

Develop comprehensive commissioning plans for Level 1–5 systems, including connectivity, network infrastructure, security, life safety, building subsystems and finishes, Electrical, Mechanical, and Building Automation components.

Conduct commissioning activities to ensure systems are installed, tested, and validated according to standards and client specifications.

Identify, track, and resolve issues during commissioning; collaborate with the project team to drive continuous improvement.

Create and review commissioning documentation, including test procedures, reports, and as-built documentation.

Witness testing of equipment during commissioning and validate sequence of operations and documentation receipt.

Collaborate with design engineers, project managers, contractors, commissioning agents, and facilities operations to ensure seamless system integration with minimal operational impact.

Implement quality control measures, adhering to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Develop and test site-specific SOPs, MOPs, and ERP procedures in coordination with facilities operations.

Provide training to end-users and maintenance personnel on operation and maintenance of commissioned systems.

Use the Change Management process to obtain approvals for preventative and corrective maintenance; document and execute maintenance using QTS processes.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Five or more years of experience in data center engineering, commissioning, project management, or equivalent.

Background in building maintenance, CCTV and Access control, networks, telecommunications, and/or fire detection/suppression systems.

Ability to travel to other Data Center locations as required.

Proficiency with MS Office Suite.

U.S. Citizenship required by law due to federal contracts.

Preferred Qualifications

Understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment and design related to data centers.

Knowledge of electrical distribution systems (medium to low voltage).

Experience with emergency backup systems (generators, UPS, battery backup).

Experience with mechanical cooling solutions (Chillers, CRAH/CRAC, Pumps, Heat Exchangers).

Familiarity with single-line drawings, critical scripted work, and sequence of operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to analyze operations of various systems, identify causes of problems, and take corrective action.

Ability to acquire and apply job-related knowledge within set guidelines.

Ability to develop solutions and technical plans for projects.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team environment.

Computer skills with MS Office, Outlook, and web-based applications.

Physical ability to perform tasks (typing, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs regularly; heavier lifting with assistance).
