UPMC Wellsboro has a full-time opening for a Professional Staff Nurse in the ICU on Days with Rotation. Hours are typically from 7a-7p. Every other weekend and rotating holidays are required. Purpose
The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse sets the standards for the level and quality of care and is responsible for the provision of nursing care. The role manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession. Responsibilities
Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally with accountability to patients and colleagues. Demonstrates cultural awareness, fosters healthy relationships, models safe work hours and time management, and communicates safety hazards identified in the workplace. Applies adult learning principles to teach patients, families, students and new staff. Provides detailed and appropriate teaching to guide patients through the episode of care and transition to home or another level of care. May serve as a preceptor and supports ongoing professional development. Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Establishes daily goals and a care plan in partnership with the patient, demonstrates critical thinking, documents comprehensively, and supports patient safety and quality goals. Demonstrates accountability for professional development, participates in unit-based governance, and contributes to improving quality of care and practice environment. Adapts to change and collaborates with the care team to support patient care. Participates in department or unit quality improvement efforts. Identifies opportunities for improvement, utilizes evidence-based practice, and discusses opportunities during multidisciplinary rounds to influence plans of care. The individual must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care for patients across age groups as specified by unit policy. Requirements include knowledge of growth and development, data assessment, and the ability to meet age-specific needs. Minimums include zero to two years of experience; BSN preferred. Must establish and maintain positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, staff, and patients/families. Ability to work productively in a complex environment, manage priorities, and exercise good clinical judgment. Mobility, dexterity, and physical stamina are required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMC-approved national certification preferred. Current Registered Nurse licensure in the facility state or a state covered by a licensure compact. CPR required per AHA standards within 30 days of hire. Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within six months of hire or within one year of graduation. ACLS required within 90 days of hire. BLS/CPR, RN or Temporary Practice Permit, Act 34, and multistate licensure requirements may apply depending on state.
