The 3 Medical Acute Care unit at UPMC Horizon - Greenville is looking for a Professional Staff Nurse to add to their team. Our Medical Acute Care Unit is a 15-bed unit that provides care for a variety of patients, including but not limited to: cellulitis, pancreatitis, CHF, and COPD patients. The unit offers training to new grads or those seeking to gain more experience. This position is eligible for sign-on bonuses for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to patients and colleagues. Demonstrates an understanding of cultural differences and holds peers accountable for healthy relationships. Maintains a conscious balance between work and personal life. Models safe work hours, time management and healthy lifestyle. Communicates with peers and management any safety hazards identified in the workplace.
Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles and applies in teaching of patients, families, students and new staff. Provides detailed and appropriate teaching to patients and families to guide them through the episode of care and transitions. Supports the development of students, new staff and colleagues, may serve as a preceptor. Creates an environment of open dialogue, inquiry and continuous development.
Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care in partnership with the patient, considering individual needs. Demonstrates critical thinking to identify clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues and communicates changes in patient care to the care team. Documents comprehensively to promote communication between caregivers.
Demonstrates accountability for professional development, participates in unit-based governance, supports change processes, and acts as a strong partner on the care team.
Participates in department or unit quality improvement efforts and utilizes evidence-based practice to improve patient care and satisfaction. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement and contributes to multidisciplinary rounds.
Operates clinical equipment as appropriate (examples include bilirubin lights for infant care and Alaris IV pumps for pediatric infusions).
Demonstrates knowledge of arrhythmia detection and management. Provides age-appropriate care aligned to the patient’s developmental stage as specified by department policy.
Minimum six months of nursing experience. BSN preferred. Ability to establish and maintain positive professional relationships and work effectively in a complex environment with multiple priorities and specialized equipment. Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Physical stamina for walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the applicable state or a compact state. CPR required based on AHA standards, with didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire. Certificates (as required) such as CPR/ACLS/PALS/NRP must be obtained within specified timeframes after hire/transfer as applicable.
UPMC-approved national certification preferred. Act 34/Act 33, and related clearances as required by state regulations.
Additional qualifications: ACLS, BLS/CPR, RN, and related state notifications. UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran.
Compensation and Benefits:
Sign-On Bonus up to $20,000 for experienced RNs with 1+ year experience, with a 2-year commitment. Graduate Nurses may be eligible for up to $15,000 with a 2-year commitment.

Additional notes:
Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder reflecting education and experience at time of offer.
Graduate Nurses eligible for licensure and professional staff nurses with nursing experience will be considered for the position.
