NSF EPC
Overview
Electrical Engineer at NSF EPC focusing on design, analysis, and optimization of renewable energy systems (primarily solar and storage). Own interconnection applications, risk management, and coordination with third-party engineers. Collaborate with project managers, EPC teams, regulatory agencies, and utility providers to ensure successful project implementation and integration. Base pay range
$110,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr Responsibilities
1. Engineering Design and Analysis (Technical Electrical Engineering Work) – 25% Conduct engineering design, reviews, and design optimizations for renewable energy projects. Utilize AutoCAD, PVSyst, and other engineering software to perform electrical design tasks, including developing single line diagrams, system specifications, and interconnection applications. Perform site evaluations, feasibility studies, and analyze performance of solar and energy storage systems to optimize system performance. Forecast and communicate design timelines with external engineers and contractors to maintain project schedules. Perform technical reviews of interconnection applications and regulatory documents to ensure compliance and assess their impact on system design. 2. Interconnection and Transmission Planning – 25% Lead the preparation and submission of interconnection applications (IA) for renewable projects, including coordinating with transmission providers to monitor the interconnection study process. Conduct transmission and risk assessments for interconnection timelines, costs, and regulatory impacts; mitigate risks to maintain project schedules. Negotiate and manage Interconnection Agreements (IAs), coordinating with legal and external consultants to ensure timely and cost-effective integration. Interface with third-party engineers and consultants as necessary to support interconnection efforts. Coordinate, review, and provide technical insight throughout feasibility, system impact, facility and GIA phases of the project related to steady state, short-circuit, stability studies, proposed interconnection facilities, network, and contingent upgrades. Prepare power flow and stability models, interconnection applications, technical specifications, and single line diagrams for renewable projects. Research and deconstruct utility and ISO tariffs for application submission. Manage and communicate interconnection milestone payments and schedule. 3. Project Management and Coordination (Collaborate with Project Managers & EPC) – 25% Collaborate with project managers on the technical aspects of renewable energy projects, including interconnection processes, design reviews, and construction oversight. Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and utility companies to ensure project compliance and smooth execution. Assist with project proposals, bid analysis, contract preparation, and tracking progress against budgets and schedules. 4. Regulatory Compliance and Permitting – 10% Assist the Development team in ensuring electrical design plans meet local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. Provide technical insight into site plans, zoning approval processes, and permitting stages, ensuring electrical designs comply with permits and approvals. Review regulatory documents, including interconnection agreements and utility tariffs, and provide strategic feedback on their impact on electrical design. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to electrical engineering in renewable energy projects. 5. Communication and Client Interaction – 15% Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external vendors, utilities, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations to communicate design concepts, interconnection findings, and regulatory compliance issues. Present to clients and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project progress, timelines, and technical requirements. Document and report on project milestones, updates, and outcomes. Knowledge, Skills, and Education
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required. Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong knowledge of transmission and interconnection processes, including risk analysis and regulatory compliance for renewable energy projects. In-depth knowledge of solar and battery storage systems, interconnection agreements, and feasibility studies. Understanding of power flow analysis, stability modeling, and single line diagrams. Ability to read and interpret regulatory documents, engineering reports, and interconnection studies. Experience
5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on renewable energy (solar and battery storage preferred). Experience with interconnection planning, transmission studies, and utility compliance across various U.S. power markets. Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and manage multiple projects. Experience with permitting, design optimization, and electrical system performance analysis for renewable energy projects. Working conditions
Clean, safe office environment. Physical requirements
Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Regularly use hands to reach; talk and hear. Regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and frequently up to 25 pounds.
