Key Responsibilities
Staff (HR) Personnel: Provides guidance to faculty, supervisors, managers, and staff in developing job descriptions and understanding compensation programs, personnel policies, and procedures related to non-academic staff and student appointments, including limited hires. Collects and analyzes information and prepares documentation to process represented and non-represented personnel actions (hires, extensions, fund changes, damage pay, layoffs, and separations). Works closely with Academic Personnel and Payroll Services to process actions timely and resolve issues. Notifies faculty, supervisors, and managers of impending personnel actions, end dates, and separations. Supports SSHA Dean's staff search committees, creates and maintains onboarding templates and communications, and maintains school organizational charts. Functions as a resource to all levels of staff on questions and issues pertaining to onboarding processes. Creates and edits Identity Management (IDM) profiles.
Academic and Staff Personnel: Provides guidance, policy expertise, and processes leave and accommodation requests: Family Medical Leave, Sabbatical, Active Service Modified Duty. Maintains leave tracking information.
Academic Personnel: Under guidance from the Assistant Dean of Personnel, counsels faculty and other academic and staff personnel concerning work-related problems, work-eligibility (visa) matters such as J-1 processing, and benefits considerations. Processes J-1 visa, H-1B visa, and Permanent Residency applications from the school to the Office of International Affairs.
Academic Personnel: Processes appointments/reviews for a various non-senate faculty titles.
Independent Contractor: Conducts initial review of request packet documents for submission to HR Class/Comp.
Academic Personnel: Under general supervision, provides advice and guidance on documented faculty or other academic staff compensation programs, academic personnel policies, and procedures. Provides positive customer service to both internal and external customers at all times. Serves as part of the core support team in the school. Serves as backup to other personnel team support staff, as required, and as primary backup for the areas listed above in the absence of the Assistant Dean of Personnel.
Other: Records retention schedule review, miscellaneous personnel-related functions, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in business administration, business management, HR, or other related area and/or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
One year of directly related, progressively responsible experience in academic HR, or a related HR area, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A master's degree is preferred; however, it may not substitute for the required year of experience. (Required)
Critical Knowledge And Skills
Basic knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic and non-academic HR.
Knowledge of organization, college and departmental formal and informal policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies.
Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems.
Knowledge of unit academic culture and educational goals of discipline(s) served.
Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations to Chairs / unit management.
Demonstrated organization, problem solving, and communication skills.
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certified. (Preferred)
