In consultation with Divisional Services and Department Leadership, and with a high degree of independence, the Course and Curriculum Coordinator applies in-depth knowledge of department and School requirements to determine courses to be taught toward the B.A. / B.S., emphases, minor programs, honors programs, and graduate degrees within the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts (SSHA). This includes sequencing for degree progression, considering cross-department courses, faculty leaves and preferences, faculty courseload, classroom availability, enrollment data, and guidelines. Responsibilities include recommending replacement courses and coordinating start-of-term processes, classroom changes, and enrollment management. This role also manages current and upcoming semester processes, including mid-semester and final grade submissions and the course proposal review process, along with annual catalog updates for SSHA. RESPONSIBILITIES Work independently with SSHA Divisional Services and Department Leadership, SSHA Academic Advising, and SSHA Deans to determine which courses are offered each term based on major requirements, enrollment trends, course restrictions, and faculty availability. Includes policy interpretation, data analysis, policy compliance, coordinating with faculty and students, setting enrollment limits, seat reservations, and recommending replacement courses. Oversee Summer Session SSHA course scheduling; coordinate with SSHA Academic Advising and the Summer Session Office on course changes and enrollment adjustments. Support instructors for current and upcoming semesters, including tracking enrollments, assigning instructors of record, ensuring final exam periods are accurate, and overseeing mid-semester and final grade submissions. Facilitate administrative review of new and revised course proposals in the curriculum management system and provide training and support to faculty. Manage the annual update to SSHA portions of the UC Merced General Catalog. Develop solutions to classroom space and scheduling issues; advise leadership on curricular decisions related to new courses and programs. Conduct annual assessments of processes for efficiency and maintain documentation of enrollment trends for planning. Qualifications
Education and Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience/training. Three years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in a student services function, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. An advanced degree in Student Affairs or Counseling is preferred and may substitute for one year of required experience (Preferred). Critical Knowledge and Skills Thorough knowledge of common university-specific computer applications and policies. Understanding of department, school, and university policies, procedures, and requirements for general and degree programs. Strong interpersonal skills to work with and gain trust from senior management, faculty, and students. Ability to identify problems, analyze data, and discern trends; capability to devise solutions to conflicts (Preferred). Background Check
