This position, reporting to the Chief Development Officer Dartmouth Health (DH) and Vice-President of Development and Alumni Engagement for the Geisel School of Medicine (CDO/VP), will serve as a part of the Medical and Healthcare Advancement (MHA) senior leadership team. The Executive Director will lead the Geisel School of Medicine development team, shaping the Dean and school’s priorities into philanthropic investments. The executive director will build prospect pools through constituency development and engagement strategies, translating these into action items for Geisel, MHA and College development teams. The executive director will also maintain a portfolio of key prospects and volunteers, working to secure and steward gifts up to $5–$10 million+. As with all members of the MHA senior leadership team, the executive director will represent the CDO and MHA in various internal and external meetings. Responsibilities

Strategic and organizational planning and leadership: craft philanthropic plans in partnership with the Dean, CDO/VP, and Geisel leadership to advance school priorities to donor constituencies; translate plans into actionable strategies. Formulate and lead a comprehensive strategy to cultivate, engage, and steward top prospects for Geisel. Serve as the primary knowledge source on Geisel development activities as a member of the MHA senior leadership team. Manage day-to-day fundraising operations for Geisel; establish team and program performance goals; monitor progress and adjust strategies. Collaborate with the VP of Principal Gifts and Venture Philanthropy to elevate significant investments in Geisel’s educational and research missions. Partner with Alumni and Strategic Engagement teams to craft strategies around alumni milestones (e.g., reunions) to solicit major gifts. Develop communications, events, and programming for Geisel and College alumni and friends to support fundraising and volunteer objectives. Work with annual and planned giving leadership to grow current use and life income gifts and diversify the donor pipeline. Develop and manage annual budgets to support Geisel fundraising activities and explore resource infrastructure needs. Provide counsel to senior leadership at Geisel and DH based on experience and professional knowledge. Percentages of Time

Fundraising: identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 50–75 Geisel and Dartmouth alumni and friends with capacity for multi-year gifts between $250,000 and $5M+; develop donor-centric strategies and moves management; collaborate with Dartmouth Advancement. 30%

Travel and donor engagement: frequent travel to meet with donors; execute fundraising and engagement targets. 20%

Staff management: manage a budgeted team of four major gift officers; hire, coach, and evaluate staff; set assignments and metrics; foster a collaborative culture. Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Ability to manage, motivate, and coach a team; ability to work with senior officers, faculty, administrators, and volunteers; excellent oral, written, and project management skills; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to handle multiple projects and priorities; proficiency with fundraising databases and relevant web-based tools; ability to handle sensitive information with discretion; strong commitment to diversity; creative, imaginative thinking; ability to bring a sense of humor to the workplace. Experience

Minimum ten years of fundraising experience and five years of management experience. Experience in communicating education and biomedical research priorities to multiple stakeholders. Comfort with business travel. Capital campaigns and major gift experience preferred; experience fundraising in a complex university or medical center development operation strongly preferred. Writing and communications experience in higher education or non-profit environment preferred. Education

Bachelors plus 10+ years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications
