Lead Maintenance Worker

positions to assist in the following areas: Trails and Pesticides Applications, and Playground Inspections divisions. Candidates may be considered for one or more of the Lead Maintenance Worker positions based on their interests, education, and experience. These positions might be perfect for you if: You enjoy working outdoors at multiple locations but can also work administratively in an office.

You a re interested and have experience in landscape pest control, trail maintenance and landscape and arboriculture practices.

You are a confident and self-motivated leader who is comfortable working by yourself or on a team.

You e njoy working with hand tools , power equipment and heavy equipment.

You enjoy the freedom and autonomy of setting priorities and scheduling work throughout the City .

You have an interest in GIS mapping, data collection, and file management.

You have experience working in several different construction trades.

You'll be responsible for:

Trails and Pesticide Applications Crew: The s afe and effective applications of fertilizers, pesticides, rodenticides, herbicides, plant and weed identification ; maintenance of close to 50 miles of equestrian trails; turf pest control and fertilization of 22 neighborhood parks; tool and equipment training and maintenance; pesticide training; participating in leading field crews during daily operations as well as during emergency situations and/or adverse weather conditions; employee evaluations and discipline for a small crew; and other duties as assigned. Playground Inspections:

Maintaining and inspecting playgrounds in the parks city-wide; leading the maintenance crew when they are working on large projects; maintaining the lighting system in the parks using an aerial lift truck at a variety of heights; maintaining park restrooms and overall plumbing; repairing and maintaining park facilities; operating a bucket truck to reach hard-to-reach places; assisting in scheduling, planning, organizing, record keeping and public contact, ensuring safe and efficient performance of work assignments; day-to-day activities associated with all aspects of the City of Rancho Cucamonga's Playground Safety Management Program, park facilities, and amenities.

Education and/or Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent, and three years of experience in public works maintenance work, which included activities similar to that of the assigned maintenance activity or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of equipment operation, techniques and methods used in the area of specialization; lead supervision and training techniques. Ability to lead the work of others engaged in the area of specialization; understand and follow verbal and written directions; work safely and efficiently; operate equipment used in work performed; read and interpret blueprints, work sketches and specialized maps; prepare work records and routine reports; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Special Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

Participation in emergency response teams, variable work schedules, weekends/holiday schedules and on-call availability are characteristics of this position. These positions may be assigned to various locations, may rotate periodically and may be assigned additional duties as required. These positions require the ability to work evenings, graveyard, and weekends. These positions may be subject to emergency call outs. The Lead Maintenance Worker position in the

Playground Inspection Division

must posses a current Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certificate issued by the National Playground Safety Institute. Candidate shall be required to become respirator certified through the Public Works Services Respirator Program. Possession of a QAC license is desirable.

The Lead Maintenance Worker position on the

Trails and Pesticide Applications Crew

will require the possession of (or the ability to obtain) a California Commercial Motor Vehicle “Class A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement; and possession of (or the ability to obtain) a Department of Pesticide Regulation Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) with Category C (Right of Way) and Category B (Landscape Maintenance). Both the CDL and the QAC must be obtained to successfully pass probation. The ability to effectively communicate in Spanish is desirable - but not required. Must have the ability to wear a respirator.
