Job Description Powertrain Engineer – Gear Shifter Interface & Torque Management for Conventional and ePT propulsion systems at KPIT, Southfield MI.

Responsibilities

Gear shifter interface management and torque control functionality for conventional and ePT.

Knowledge of gear shifters, drive modes, terrain modes, torque calculations, and ePT motor torque management.

Knowledge of PT, ePT transmission shift schedules and driveline torque calculations.

Perform powertrain function analysis and function decomposition.

Requirement elicitation activities to gather regulatory requirements, environmental and electrical parameters & associated corporate specifications.

Propulsion system high‑level functional requirement artifact creation in IBM DOORS/IBM DOORS Next Gen (DNG) including attribute classifications.

Propulsion system operating modes identification, analysis and documentation in DNG.

Propulsion system end‑of‑life service requirements (IO, routine, DID) defined for propulsion components.

Perform System Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (SFMEA) for propulsion system functions and identify the safety requirement.

Participate in Agile methodology to plan RASI deliverable timing and identify potential risks.

Develop simulation/virtual models for specific propulsion features/functions using MATLAB, SysML Rhapsody.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Electronics Engineering and other related Engineering degrees.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in conventional powertrain development (Experience in Diesel Engines Preferred).

Good understanding of overall vehicle dynamics and vehicle system functioning.

Good understanding of automotive electrical sensors, switch and actuators system functioning.

Expertise with automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN along with OBD standards.

Experience in function analysis and function decomposition.

Expertise with Microsoft Office products Outlook, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint.

Proficient in requirement management tools such as IBM Rational DOORs, IBM DOORS Next Gen.

Preferred Requirements

Experience with Vector Tools for data collection.

Vehicle validation or powertrain calibration experience.

Familiarity with Agile project management.

Experience with overall vehicle development cycle and change management process.

Good communication skills, able to lead meetings with cross‑functional team.
