GM Performance Power Units – Concord, NC Job Summary: We\'re seeking a skilled and highly motivated Quality Engineer to join our Quality Department at GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the integrity and reliability of precision power unit components through advanced Computed Tomography (CT) and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). Utilizing CT and NDT techniques, you will have a critical role in safeguarding the performance of advanced metallic, additive, and battery cell components to support engineering and manufacturing teams. As we build our quality foundation for Formula 1 power units, your work will directly support early validation efforts and drive conformance to the stringent requirements of FIA power unit regulations.

Conduce complex inspections and validations of high-precision components.

Program and operate CT systems to inspect internal and external structures of advanced metallic, additive, and battery cell components.

Perform NDT techniques to detect defects or flaws of components (e.g., ultrasonic, dye penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current).

Analyze CT/NDT results to support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and process improvement.

Collaborate with design and manufacturing to define inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.

Contribute to the setup and continuous improvement of the metrology lab, including equipment calibration and maintenance.

Develop measurement control plans and quality documentation within the ERP and QMS systems.

Collaborate with design and manufacturing to drive conformance to FIA regulations and company quality standards.

Provide accurate, actionable feedback to support manufacturing and inspection readiness milestones.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.

Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in a high-precision manufacturing environment.

Strong technical skills in dimensional metrology, GD&T, and interpretation of complex engineering drawings.

Proficiency in programming and operating CT and NDT systems.

Expertise in the use of NDE software, CAD data integration, and data analysis tools.

Experience in fixture design, process development, and inspection automation.

Solid understanding of MSA and SPC.

Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Motorsport, aerospace, or medical device industry experience.

Certifications such as GD&T, ASNT, and/or ASQ CQE.

Experience with rapid prototyping and/or additive manufactured components.

Experience with ERP/QMS integration (e.g., IFS).

Understanding of machining processes and design intent.
