GM Performance Power Units – Concord, NC Title: Quality Engineer Department: Quality Job Summary: We're seeking a skilled and highly motivated Quality Engineer to join our Quality Department at GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC. In this pivotal role, you will ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance of power unit components by conducting precision inspections, developing measurement routines, and analyzing data to support engineering and manufacturing teams. As we build our quality foundation for Formula 1 power units, your work will directly support early validation efforts and drive conformance to the stringent requirements of FIA power unit regulations. Responsibilities
Conduct complex inspections and validations of high-precision components. Utilize CAD models to develop, optimize, and validate inspection programs for CMMs, optical systems, and laser scanners. Interpret engineering drawings and verify conformance of GD&T principles. Analyze measurement data to support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and process improvement. Contribute to the setup and continuous improvement of the metrology lab, including equipment calibration and maintenance. Develop measurement control plans and quality documentation within the ERP and QMS systems. Collaborate with design and manufacturing to drive conformance to FIA regulations and company quality standards. Provide accurate, actionable feedback to support manufacturing and inspection readiness milestones. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 2 years of experience in a high-precision manufacturing environment. Strong technical skills in dimensional metrology, GD&T, and interpretation of complex engineering drawings. Proficiency in programming and operating CMMs and optical systems (e.g., Zeiss Calypso). Experience in fixture design, process development, and inspection automation. Solid understanding of MSA and SPC. Familiarity with CAD software and data analysis tools (e.g., NX, Excel, and Minitab). Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Preferred Qualifications
Motorsport, aerospace, or medical device industry experience. Experience with CMM program simulation and verification. Certifications such as GD&T, Zeiss Calypso, and/or ASQ CQE. Experience with rapid prototyping and/or additive manufactured components. Experience with ERP/QMS integration (e.g., IFS). Understanding of machining processes and design intent. Personal Attributes
