Overview: In the role of Electrical Engineer - Power Generation, we'll count on you to contribute to utility-scale power and renewable energy design projects, potentially leading multiple design and engineering tasks simultaneously. You will be involved in power generation and distribution, renewable energy, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specification development, and balance of plant designs such as raceway, lighting, and grounding systems. Responsibilities: Have experience within the utility-scale power and renewable energy industry and support power generation design projects, including leading multiple design and engineering tasks simultaneously. Engage in power generation and distribution, renewable energy, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specification development, and balance of plant designs (e.g., raceway, lighting, grounding). Show interest or experience in renewables and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Mentor junior engineers, develop client relationships, and support marketing activities such as proposal technical writing, fee builds, and work breakdown structure development (desirable). Own design and engineer-of-record responsibilities for power plant systems. Perform other duties as needed. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Texas or ability to obtain reciprocity. Protection and control design experience including setting calculations and electronic file development. Instrumentation and Controls experience (DCS/PLC) is a plus. Field experience including startup and commissioning is desirable. Experience in renewable energy (PV, BESS, etc.) and DER or microgrid projects is highly desired. Previous experience with an engineering power consulting firm is desired. Willingness to grow into a team lead or section manager role. Knowledge and experience with three-phase electrical power, protection and control design, system grounding, physical design, and related activities (lighting, instrumentation and control, life safety systems). Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (e.g., ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, CYMCAD, PSCAD). Ability to conduct work sessions and project meetings, participate in on-site reviews with the Project Manager and other disciplines, and provide construction contract administration as needed. Develop project schematic design and contract document phases, review project documents, write project specifications, and coordinate areas of conflict with other disciplines. Coordinate with affected disciplines on addenda, RFIs, COs, JSAs, and incorporate changes into project documents. Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Engineers, Project Coordinators, or Designers. Active participation in HDR’s employee-owned culture is essential. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position (e.g., PE or P.Eng). Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector. Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit).
