Minimum Experience and Training Requirements A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related medical or scientific discipline with 0-1 year experience.
Required License Certification And Registration Must have met the educational requirements for and passed a recognized Certification Examination for Medical Technologist (also known as Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, CLS). Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC). If not certified, must be registry eligible and successfully obtain certification within the first year of employment.
Physical Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climb stairs, work indoors, work outside in temperature extremes, work from elevated areas, work in confined/cramped spaces, perform kneeling positions, bend at waist, twist at waist, squat, perform pinching operations, perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands, grip with fingers and hands, fine manipulation with fingers and hands, reach overhead, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, use lower extremities for balance and coordination, reach in all directions, lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted, lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs., exert up to 50 lbs. of force, maintain 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes, see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match or discriminate between colors, determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception, good peripheral vision capabilities, maintain hearing acuity with correction, perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, work overtime as required, work in a latex safe environment, maintain tactile sensory functions, maintain good olfactory sensory function (selected positions), qualify physically for respirator use.
