Overview

Pride Health is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist to support a client’s medical facility in Portland, OR 97227. This is a 3-month assignment with the possibility of a contract-to-hire opportunity. Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist Pay Rate: $40-$48 per hour Location: Portland, OR 97227 Schedule: 3rd shift 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM (4x10); 2nd shift 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM Duration: 3 Months + Base pay range is provided by Pride Health. Responsibilities

Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.

Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures (see department SOPs).

Review and release test results.

Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in applicable guidelines.

Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and all maintenance performed.

Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures when test systems are not within acceptable performance levels.

Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correct the problems or notify the senior technologist or supervisor.

Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.

Follow department procedures in reporting STATs or critical results to clients.

Answer questions from customers or other lab personnel, if applicable.

Maintain complete records of all testing performed on-site.

Maintain general appearance and organization of the department.

Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates if applicable. Review/train on new procedures.

Attend monthly department and additional training/educational meetings.

Participate in safety training sessions and know the location and contents of the safety manual and equipment.

If needed, participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.

Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge: A solid understanding of basic laboratory testing; ability to use multiple computer systems; knowledge of QC/QA and all areas of the laboratory.

Education: BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; foreign-educated candidates must provide credential evaluation; US-educated candidates must provide transcript. Eligible for MT/MLT national certification (ASCP or AMT) preferred.

Work Experience: 5-7 years of clinical experience in high-complexity testing preferred. Minimum 1 year of high-complexity testing experience for those with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology. Licensure as required.

Special Requirements: Ability to manage multiple priorities; good customer service skills; protect patient confidentiality.
