Licensed Resident Engineer - RANGE D, Department of Transportation. Job Description and Duties
Under direction of the Area Senior Construction Engineer (a Senior Transportation Engineer), incumbent will perform a wide variety of difficult and complex transportation engineering work. Serves as the licensed professional resident engineer on construction projects. Will assign work, give instructions, make decisions on difficult engineering and administrative problems in connection with directing work on various transportation projects. Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. PARF# 05-6-530 / JC- 492729 Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Working Conditions
Position located in Santa Cruz, California. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. Work will involve night work, field work, earthwork, paving operations, lab work, exposure to weather, chemicals, noise, and other field conditions. Protective gear must be worn in the field. Office work is conducted in climate-controlled spaces, with potential temperature fluctuation. Travel is required. A valid California driver’s license is desired. Overtime may be required. The Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program is a mandatory 24 to 33 month rotation for eligible employees, with core assignments in Design and Construction and a mandatory elective. Rotations may involve long-term travel and relocation within the state. Incumbents may be required to go on loan to other project delivery functions as needed. Minimum Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle. Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required. Statement of qualifications (SOQ) required. A maximum two page SOQ is required, addressing education, training, experience, and skills relevant to the position. Knowledge includes contract administration, Caltrans Construction Manual, Standard Specifications, and highway/bridge construction. Ability includes administering contracts, leading staff, communicating with contractors, building cooperative relationships, and possessing or pursuing CA Professional Engineer licensure. Verification of minimum qualifications will occur prior to interview/appointment. If basing eligibility on education, include unofficial transcripts or diplomas.
