As part of the thermal group, you will contribute to developing next generation clean energy solutions, accelerating progress toward a sustainable energy future. You will play a key role in the architecture, design, and validation of Generac’s clean energy products, with emphasis on design and validation of innovative thermal solutions.
Roles and Responsibilities
Architect, design, model, and validate thermal solutions in ESS/power electronics
Build CFD models and instrumented thermal test vehicles to validate models
Create innovative product enabling thermal solutions that balance form and function
Optimize thermal solutions for performance, DFM/DFA, size, acoustics, reliability, and cost
Provide clear and actionable guidance to engineering teams for detailed design
Size and select components for passive, air, liquid, and 2‑phase thermal solutions
Interface with thermal suppliers for component selection, validation, and integration
Partner with validation & reliability teams to define thermal test parameters
Partner with SW/FW to provide thermal policies for control algorithms
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
5+ years of experience working in thermal solutions on power electronics
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge modeling passive cooling, air cooling, liquid cooling, 2‑phase, batteries, solar radiation
Knowledge in sizing and selection of fans, radiators, heat sinks, heat pipes, etc.
Knowledge with instrumentation and data acquisition methods for thermal validation
Knowledge proficiency with Ansys, Flotherm, or Star CCM (or other leading CFD packages)
Knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; use hands to manipulate objects or controls; stand and walk. The employee may stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25–50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
