Ports and Marine Civil/Structural Engineer
WSP is initiating a search for a full-time Ports and Marine Engineer to support offices in Irvine, San Diego, San Francisco, CA; Miami, FL; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; and Houston, TX. The candidate will join our Ports and Maritime Team and contribute to projects that address client objectives and challenges.
Our Maritime group includes analysts, planners, and maritime civil and structural engineers working across the US and internationally. Major clients include port authorities, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, terminal operators, contractors, and private entities. We pride ourselves on the diversity of marine-related work and our staff.
WSP has been a leader in waterfront design for over 90 years. The Maritime group is dynamic and collaborative, and you would be joining the largest waterfront/marine design team in the country. Projects are diverse, interesting, and challenging.
Responsibilities and qualifications reflect the role’s focus on civil/structural design for marine and upland components, teamwork, and client satisfaction.
Your Impact
Perform civil/structural design for marine and upland components under supervision of senior ports and marine engineers
Prepare technical written communications in the form of memoranda and reports
Support managers in the creation of plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates in accordance with client requirements
Work in a team to ensure work product meets scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
Perform design calculations in support of broader engineering activities
Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work
Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of site work and code compliance
Complete training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
3–5 years of relevant post-education experience
Familiarity with marine, port, and civil/structural engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build applications
Familiarity with relevant marine, port, and coastal construction codes, regulations, and compliance practices
Analytical mindset with the ability to exercise sound judgment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with engineering and non-engineering audiences
Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet objectives
Basic proficiency with technical writing, engineering software, spreadsheets, and related tools
Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit)
Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training Certification
Prior design experience
Participation in local professional practice organizations
Experience in design of marine upland facilities
Field investigation or construction support experience
Hands-on design experience
Additional incentive for candidates with a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC)

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $77,000–$125,000. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range based on education, experience, and geographic location. Additional benefits may be offered as applicable.
