Job Description

The Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery. This role involves building, wiring, programming, and testing both simple and complex control systems using relay logic, HMIs/PLCs, programmable relays, VFDs, and various digital and mechanical process switching and instrumentation technologies. Systems may include components from IDEC, Allen-Bradley, IFM, Schneider Electric, Eaton, and IMO.

Responsibilities

Design and develop electrical control systems tailored to project specifications. Build, wire, program, and test control panels and systems. Utilize a range of technologies including relay logic, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and instrumentation. Support both standard and custom work order processing by translating customer specifications into internal manufacturing requirements. Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, sales, vendors, project managers, contractors, field representatives, and customers to ensure successful implementation, training, and troubleshooting of electrical designs.

Essential Skills

Electromechanical assembly and wiring. PLC troubleshooting, control, and system management. Experience with HMI and schematic design. Knowledge of Allen-Bradley systems and VFD technology. Ability to read and interpret work orders, manuals, specs, wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering drawings. Bachelor's in Engineering OR Associate's degree with 2 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

If no degree, a minimum of 8 years of experience within industrial electrical controls. Experience with selecting electrical components. Proficiency in PLC programming.

Work Environment

Approximately 60% of the time will be spent at a desk, with the remaining 40% on the shop floor, working hands-on with equipment. A dedicated workspace and laptop will be provided for interfacing with control systems. The typical production environment involves working with industrial pumps.

The schedule is Monday through Thursday, 10-hour days, with flexibility in start times of 5, 6, or 7 am. Fridays are optional overtime days, hardly ever mandated.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $40.00/hr.
