Team The EV Efficiency Engineering Team (EVE) is one of the engineering teams within the Department of Electrified Propulsion System Development (EPSD). EVE focuses on enhancing vehicle‑level efficiency for Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles and localizing them for North American market needs.
Position EV AER Development Engineer – This role leads activities for identifying, developing, and integrating more efficient propulsion system technologies in our current and next generation Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis EV products. The position also supports investigation of new technologies for off‑cycle, real‑world, and fuel‑efficiency benefits. The office is located in Superior Township, MI.
Core Responsibilities
Supporting and establishing targets for EV energy efficiency (MPGe) through testing and analysis of current and developing vehicles, benchmarking key competitive vehicles and propulsion system technologies.
Investigating new or advanced propulsion system technologies, strategies, and methods to improve vehicle‑level efficiency while considering system costs, drivability, and performance impacts for customers.
Analyzing competitive data sets and assessing future trends in passenger vehicle fuel economy and energy‑efficiency related technologies.
Leading activities to develop and integrate new or advanced technologies to improve overall vehicle and system efficiencies to attain targeted vehicle energy efficiency (MPGe) and document impacts/trade‑offs to vehicle performance and drivability.
Collaborating and supporting testing and development activities with other Propulsion System Development teams, Product Planning, and Certification & Regulation, or other relevant teams for items related to EV efficiency.
Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 10%).
Core Capabilities
Ability to set up and conduct vehicle testing (MCT) for fuel economy, system/component efficiency benchmarking, and analyze the test data using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
Demonstrated experience for integration and development of new, more efficient technologies and strategies in targeted vehicle applications and execute appropriate test program(s) for validation of the applied technologies’ benefits.
Experience and detailed understanding of vehicle propulsion systems under various driving conditions, and calibration/control of propulsion systems for improving/optimizing vehicle energy efficiency.
Experience with, and strong understanding of, simulation of vehicle/propulsion system for virtual development activities, and vehicle model development/validation with test data.
Strong knowledge/understanding of propulsion system technology trends in U.S. market to support identification of key technologies for vehicle energy efficiency improvement and compliance strategy.
Strong knowledge/understanding of current and future regulatory requirements, including testing procedures, and capability to provide relevant information to help other engineers understand technical requirements to support our test and development activities.
Ability to collaborate with experts from around the company including other Propulsion System Development teams, Vehicle Engineering, Product Planning, Regulation & Legal Affairs to support and influence the development of vehicle efficiency improvement strategy.
Ability to lead/support communications and negotiations with the appropriate regulatory agencies for EV Test Procedure.
Ability to create detailed technical reports and present critical information to the management team and colleagues, with clear documentation of technical analysis, system trade‑offs, conclusions and recommendations, as necessary.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related engineering degree from accredited university.
Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge of electrified powertrain systems, thermal management systems, general vehicle dynamics and vehicle controls/calibration.
Demonstrated experience to support and lead vehicle instrumentation, test equipment and experimental setup/design.
Experienced in writing detailed technical reports and ability to clearly present results and recommendations to other engineers and management team.
Strong interpersonal and technical problem‑solving skills.
Demonstrated technical leadership, project management, and ability to support less experienced engineers for improving technical competencies (mentoring, technical training, etc.).
Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science in related Engineering field from an accredited university.
7+ years of total automotive industry experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) Instrumentation and testing of vehicle powertrain/drivetrain and related systems.
(2) Evaluating mHEV, FHEV, PHEV and BEV performance, emissions, and fuel economy/efficiency test data.
(3) Supporting vehicle simulation and model‑based development.
Experience with SAE J2807 compliance such as tow haul testing and grade launches.
Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS/INCA.
Experience with model‑based development tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
Experience with 1‑D physical modeling tools such as AVL‑Cruise, GT‑Suite.
Knowledge and experience in control logic, logic development and evaluation to support vehicle development projects.
