Role description
Arcadis is seeking a highly motivated Principal Protection and Control Engineer to join our Power Delivery & Renewable team. The Power Delivery group partners with clients to provide comprehensive plans that incorporate all aspects of their projects. This is a senior Lead Technical position within the Power Delivery & Renewable unit. The candidate will interface with the Protection and Control Team on technical and project management assignments, project engineering, proposal management and business development. The role includes day-to-day client engagement, project and proposal coordination, project execution, resource planning, and hands-on technical solution delivery. The incumbent will ensure project execution in accordance with applicable codes and standards and Arcadis policies (Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control). Collaboration with other Power Delivery departments and Arcadis business divisions is required.
The position involves coordinating the Power Delivery & Renewables (PD&R) team and performing hands-on protection & control engineering, detail design, and studies for utility and developer clients in North America. You will work closely with other renewable energy teams (e.g., wind, solar, green H2) within Arcadis. As part of the PD&R team, you will help improve quality of life.
Role accountabilities
Manage and grow Protection and Control team, coordinating with the PD&R Leader and Manager of Protection and Control. Ensure resource planning, utilization, and quality reviews on large/complex projects.
Support, develop, and deliver utility, developers, and all aspects of client projects from conceptual one-line diagrams through detailed design and construction support.
Coordinate with civil, structural, substation electrical, system planning & studies, SCADA/telecommunications, water, and geotechnical engineers to develop complete Issue For Construction design packages. Review and QA all engineering studies required for detailed engineering packages.
Act as Project Manager, Proposal Manager, Program Manager, Account Manager, and Technical Lead to support services and growth in the region.
Mentor junior team members; perform QA/QC on the work of other electrical engineers, designers, or technicians. Participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and vendors to support business development and project execution.
Collaborate with the PD&R Leader to develop plans for client development, account growth, department growth, resource planning, winning/execution strategy, quality control improvement, and financial performance to meet PD&R goals.
Travel up to 20% to client sites and meetings within North America and potentially internationally.
Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in system protection schemes and relay/control engineering design, relay selection, primary equipment interface requirements, and communication systems for AIS and GIS substations in utility-scale, developer, and/or large industrial facilities.
Experience within Power Delivery Protection & Relay Control consultancy businesses with understanding of power delivery, generation, and renewables.
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CAPE, AcSELerator, WinIGS) and design experience with NEC, NESC, IEEE standards, and local codes.
