Attn All Applicants The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) State Equipment Fleet is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What you will be doing
Professionally maintain all heavy-duty and light-duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports and other user agency vehicles in the area.
Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems using a variety of techniques; perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment.
Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission systems, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems including air and electrical for light and heavy-duty equipment.

Working Environment Location: Sag River Camp – MP 305 Dalton Highway. Travel by small plane to remote locations is possible; travel consists of day trips and overnight stays.
DOT&PF employees work in diverse locations across Alaska, addressing transportation needs and maintaining critical infrastructure in rugged terrain and extreme weather.

Vehicle Maintenance: Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, systems, design, use, repair, and maintenance.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED — The position requires a Class A CDL. Hire approval is conditional upon obtaining the CDL within 120 days of hire and signing an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and cannot start work in a CDL position until pre-employment drug testing is completed. Violations and refusals may be reported to the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse.
Tool allowance: Employees in this position are required to provide their own hand tools. A monthly tool allowance is provided, determined by the position, and reviewed with the manager after hire.
