Position Overview Phlebotomist – Mobile Flex Team – Will Train

Responsibilities

Collect, label, and document blood and other patient specimens in accordance with department procedures.

Register patients and order tests following established policies for patient identification, verification, and medical necessity.

Maintain specimen tracking and perform centrifugation and sample processing as required.

Provide patients with specimen collection forms and explain special preparation instructions.

Schedule venipunctures or capillary punctures according to priority and type of test.

Verify patient identity, fasting status, and prepare patients for specimen collection.

Alert nursing staff or supervisors to any deviations from specimen collection or adverse patient condition.

Perform bleeding time testing, label, wrap, and transport samples according to type and urgency.

Follow universal precautions and hospital policy for specimen collection and patient care.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Phlebotomy certificate through National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences and/or completion of a formal internship demonstrating 100 successful venipunctures.

Six months of phlebotomy experience may be considered in lieu of internship.

Five plus years of direct phlebotomy experience may be considered in lieu of certification.

Ability to perform venipuncture techniques and capillary puncture on adults, children, and infants.

Interpersonal skills to obtain and provide information to patients and explain procedures effectively.

Clerical skills to prepare and maintain records and reports, including keyboard skills to enter information.

Familiarity with blood collector equipment, anticoagulants, special precautions and interference, and ability to distinguish chromatic colors.

Pay Range $17.69–$27.90 per hour
