Pharmacy Operations Manager

Walgreens Overview Accountable for day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where allowed by state and federal laws/regulations. Ensures efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervises pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within the guidelines of company policies, laws, regulations and business ethics. Responsibilities Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Supervise pharmacy technicians and cashiers under pharmacist guidance. Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Manage training, coaching, and performance; make decisions regarding performance management, including discipline and termination. Manage core pharmacy workflow and daily schedule; coordinate and organize activities; ensure the pharmacy is clean, stocked, and compliant. Assist pharmacists with patient care activities including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation and verification of medications (where allowed by law), and related calls to patients and physicians. Support healthcare service offerings such as vaccines and health screenings (where allowed by law). Delegate non-clinical work within approved policies and laws to ensure timely task completion and efficient workflow. Prepare and file reports required by the company and government agencies as directed. Ensure compliance with Good Faith Dispensing standards and maintain security safeguards in the pharmacy. Monitor inventory management and recordkeeping; assist with financial analyses and improving customer service and operational quality. Coordinate and assign pharmacists to off-site immunization clinics and community events as directed. Build and sustain relationships with retail partnerships and manage outreach activities. People & Performance Management Lead performance management for technicians, including discipline and termination decisions in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements. Promote attendance, timeliness, and engagement; drive continuous improvement through action planning. Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, and scheduling; ensure timely training completion and compliance with company policies. Identify gaps in operations knowledge and support team members with training and development; monitor licensure, registrations, and certifications for all team members; verify status using company resources. Ensure procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training comply with policy and legal requirements. Training & Personal Development Maintain PTCB certification or state-required certification/registration; pursue ongoing professional development and health care knowledge. Engage in certifications and training (e.g., LTMP e-modules) as required; seek feedback and use mentorship for growth. Communication Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support centers or other key channels. Participate in store/pharmacy meetings and regular check-ins with management. Basic Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico). One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting. Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations). Preferred Qualifications Previous people management/leadership experience. Previous Walgreens experience with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
