The Nurse Practitioner-OB/GYN manages and coordinates nursing and patient care in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team. This role provides diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, evaluates patients, and implements care plans addressing physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs. It also makes appropriate referrals to physicians and allied health professionals.
Responsibilities include:
Evaluate and manage uncomplicated obstetrical patients, including prenatal and postpartum care (excluding labor and delivery, admitting, or operating room privileges).
Monitor fetal well-being with Doppler and blood tests.
Order and evaluate fetal surveillance tests such as ultrasound and non-stress testing.
Manage care for pregnancies with conditions like gestational diabetes, hypertension, obesity, prior cesarean, anemia, substance abuse, etc.
Recognize and refer high-risk patients.
Provide group prenatal care for cohorts of patients with similar social or educational concerns.
Evaluate and treat gynecologic patients, focusing on breast and cervical health, vulvovaginitis, cervicitis, etc.
Manage referred patients with gynecologic conditions such as abnormal bleeding, polycystic ovary syndrome, menopausal symptoms, and urinary incontinence, referring to specialists as needed.
Provide family planning counseling and management, including prescribing hormonal methods and inserting/removing devices like IUDs and Nexplanon.
Order and review ultrasounds and lab tests for diagnosis and care planning.
Perform procedures such as biopsies, I&D, pessary placement, and colposcopy (depending on scope).
Minimum qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited nursing school with a Master of Science degree or an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Current Indiana license or eligibility.
Collaborative agreement with an affiliated physician group.
Indiana Controlled Substance and Drug Enforcement Registration.
