Sr. Application Engineer – Protection, Controls and Automation
This candidate must be based within 40 miles of a Schneider Electric Hub location (Andover, MA; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Foxboro, MA; Nashville, TN; Raleigh, NC; Florham Park, NJ; Houston/Round Up, TX; Louisville, KY; St. Louis, MO). This role is intended to be in the office 2-3 days per week with up to 25% travel per month to various customer locations across the US. “The Protection, Controls & Automation (PCA) group of Digital Power is the engineering entity of Schneider Electric NAM, specializing in developing solutions for control and protection for electrical substations, data centers, oil & gas, and distribution networks. Within this group, the Energy Automation team is seeking a Sr. Application Engineer with advanced knowledge in Power Systems, Protection Schemes, Protection Relays configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. The candidate will lead multiple complex power system projects, propose innovative features and improvements, train team members, and support them in-person or remotely as needed. Demonstrate and promote Schneider Electric's Safety-First policies, including STOP work authority, to all stakeholders. Design, Configuration, Testing:
Lead the development of design specifications, review documentation, engage in testing and validation, and execute projects during FAT and SAT, ensuring adherence to quality standards. Technical Leadership:
Lead project design and architecture discussions with customers and internal teams on complex solutions. Collaboration:
Work with Sales and Project Managers during project handover, propose digital solutions, and collaborate across teams for seamless project execution. Innovation:
Lead the development of PCA projects, implement standards, and propose improvements. Technical Escalation Management:
Resolve technical issues and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Profile: Engineering or Master’s degree in Electrical or Power Systems. Minimum 4+ years of experience in Protection, Control, and Automation projects. Advanced knowledge of Power Systems, Protection Relays, and Protection Schemes. Strong communication, mentoring, and organizational skills. Willingness to travel 40% domestically. Knowledge of Schneider Electric’s Medium and Low Voltage Systems. Experience with protection relay testing, IEC61850, and communication protocols like Modbus and DNP3.
