Overview
Along with other core team members, the Early Intervention Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) screens, evaluates, and provides ongoing assessment. Aides in the development of an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for each child and provides direct services to children eligible for early intervention services with delays in physical, cognitive, communication, social, and adaptive development. The SLP, along with other team members, instructs parents and caregivers by modeling appropriate strategies to incorporate into the routines of the family. To problem solve, discuss progress and challenges of each child and prepare a transition/discharge plan.
Responsibilities
Complete developmental evaluations in the child\'s natural environment to identify strengths and needs
Communicate effectively with families and team members in oral and written formats
Support and enhance the family\'s ability to interact with their child during daily routines
Provide strategies with measurable and functional outcomes as part of the IFSP
Collaborate with family, service coordination, and other team members to determine ongoing services based on family concerns, outcomes, and routines
Use the NJ Birth to Three Early Learning Standards as a framework for developmentally appropriate expectations
Apply discipline-specific tools and checklists to assess needs and distinguish licensed SLP-led strategies from those addressable by other qualified team members
Adapt activities to meet family outcomes and incorporate varied intervention models, including evidence-based strategies
Evaluate effectiveness of methods while meeting family outcomes
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the NJEIS Code of Conduct
Complete session notes and record data for billing; submit required paperwork timely
Seek supervision/consultation as needed and contribute to annual performance reviews and improvement plans
Assist in training others in EI philosophy and evidence-based intervention models
Communicate job-specific concerns and participate in developing solutions
Attend in-service trainings, staff meetings, and conference calls
Travel in personal vehicle to the families\' natural environments
Qualifications
Master\'s degree in Speech Language Pathology
New Jersey Licensed Speech Language Pathologist
Maintain valid NJ driver’s license and required insurance
At least 2 years’ experience working with young children with disabilities
Targeted Evaluation (TET) team members require 2 years pediatric experience with children ages 0-5
Strong background in normal child development
Knowledge of educational and therapeutic value of early intervention for developmental delays
Knowledge of basic principles of behavior management
Ability to integrate early childhood educational and intervention techniques into family routines
Certifications and Licenses Required
