Laboratory Technician Pay and Classification

Pay Status and Classification: Non-exempt, Regular full-time. Supervisor

Supervisor: Chair/Associate Chair of the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering Position Purpose

Technical support for the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering. Maintain and upgrade test equipment, computer hardware and software, and electronics supplies for classrooms and teaching laboratories. Assist students and faculty with projects involving electronics and computer components and maintain a safe working environment for project work. Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Maintain test equipment in department classrooms and teaching laboratories. Test equipment includes: power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, soldering stations, and testing kits (multimeter and scope probes, cables, solderless breadboard). Maintain computers (hardware and software) in department classrooms and teaching laboratories. Software responsibilities include software updates, licenses, imaging/memory management, and connectivity with test equipment. Maintain inventories of electrical and computer supplies. Electrical supplies include: resistors, capacitors, inductors, semiconductors, wire, breadboards, probe cables, and hand tools. Computer supplies include: USB cables, video cables, mice, and keyboards. Provide support for student capstone and student/faculty research projects. Support includes purchasing components, addressing questions related to stock electronic components, and providing assistance with test equipment. Ensure all safety standards and work practices (e.g. soldering) within the department classrooms are followed according to college policy and law. Assist in coordinating lab safety standards for ABET accreditation. Qualifications

Proficiency with electronic test equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and power supplies. Proficiency in soldering and desoldering electronic components, as well as soldering safety protocols. Proficiency in computer maintenance and connectivity with laboratory instrumentation. Experience with supporting laboratory safety standards. Experience with the diagnosis and minor repair of electronic and computer equipment. Minimum of two years of vocational/technical school or equivalent knowledge in electrical and computer engineering. Experience with engineering software (e.g., circuit simulation and MATLAB) microcontrollers and embedded systems, and working in educational or research laboratory settings preferred. Compensation

The expected hourly range for this position is $22-26. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Location
