Overview
The Family Engagement Officer is a public-facing role within the Office of Family Engagement in the Division of Prevention Services (DPS) of the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). The selected candidate will be offered a salary between $84,863.00 and $97,593.00. This position supports preventive services, connects families with community-based resources, and contributes to improving family functioning and safety. Minimum qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited school and state professional registration (LCSW or LMSW) with specified experience requirements. Note: Employees must obtain the required license within one year of appointment. Specific Duties
A Family Engagement Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of families in need of preventive services. This public-facing role requires responding to inquiries by phone or email to provide Preventive Services, access to community-based organizations, and concrete resources to support families. Provide timely and compassionate assistance to callers, assess urgency, and take appropriate actions to address supports needed. Report to the Deputy Director of the Support team and perform tasks including: Responding to inquiries to the Prevention Support Line and Connect Mailbox in a professional, empathetic manner. Listen actively to callers, gather pertinent information (including child details and relevant circumstances), and make clinical assessments as appropriate. Provide accurate information about resources, support services, and intervention options; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., child protective services, law enforcement, community organizations) to coordinate responses. Complete administrative functions, document call information accurately in the designated database/case management system, and follow up on cases with strong organizational skills. Attend and participate in ongoing training and professional development on best practices, legal requirements, and emerging issues in child welfare. Work collaboratively as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision; proficient in computers and software applications for data entry, case management, and communication. Minimum Qualifications
A Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work is required. Applicants must have one of the following: A valid New York State Registration as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with at least one year of post-graduate experience in related areas (family conferences, group work with children/youth/families, or training in child and family services); or A valid New York State Registration as a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) with at least three years of the experience described above (up to two years may be in supervision); or At least three years of the experience described above. A license (LCSW or LMSW) must be obtained within one year of appointment. Note: Employees who fail to obtain their LCSW or LMSW within one year after appointment may have probation extended up to six months; failure to obtain by end of probation may result in dismissal. Also, at least one year of the required experience must have been obtained in the last five years. Preferred Skills
Previous experience in child welfare, social services, or crisis intervention is highly desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations. Additional Information
