Junior Robotics Mechanical Design Engineer – R&D and Product Design. Full-time, On-Site in Downers Grove, IL. This role requires a portfolio to apply and a link to your portfolio on your resume. CAD work under the direction of the Lead Mechanical Engineer on projects involving R&D and product design for mobile robotic platforms and manipulators. Integrate 3rd party electromechanical devices such as motors, servos, brackets, cameras, sensors, cables, etc. Design custom brackets with focus on DFM, DFA, manufacturing processes, and cost. Fit electrical components with protective enclosures inside the robot chassis and navigation stacks. Design modular mounting systems and access panels with emphasis on ease of maintenance. Wire components, design and select cable runs and connectors. Collaborate on 3D parts for design and prototyping; conceptualize and discuss parts. Apply basic knowledge of manufacturing processes (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, molding). Work independently after receiving a high-level task. Learn and improve skills with a strong curiosity for new technologies. Skills you will be working on

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA). 3D Modeling with proper constraint design and sketch methodology. Engineering Drawings with accurate annotations for production. Prototyping and rapid design iteration. Optimizing project workflows for speed and efficiency. Prototyping order of operations from rough design to aesthetics. Tolerance analysis for proper fit and function. Material selection based on application, manufacturability, and cost. Engineering documentation and maintenance of design specifications.
