This entry-level role offers hands-on experience in CAD drafting, mechanical design, and project coordination, with a path to transition into a Product Engineer or Sales Engineer role within 18 to 24 months based on performance. Location: Katy, TX; Salary: $80,000 - $120,000 per year. Responsibilities
The Engineer in Training (EIT) will begin in the drafting team, with the potential to transition into a Product Engineer or Sales Engineer role within 18 to 24 months, contingent upon performance. Assist in preparing and modifying technical drawings and schematics using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Develop layout designs and mechanical piping plans under the guidance of senior drafters and engineers. Develop working drawings for customers (Layout/Mechanical Arrangement) and fabrication shop (Pipe routing and sub-assemblies for the complete unit). Assist in reviewing customer specifications to understand technical requirements, comments, clarifications, and exceptions for projects. Support the selection, specification, and design of compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and piping systems. Perform engineering calculations related to piping pressure loss, control valve sizing, heat transfer, etc., under guidance. Create P&IDs and basic package layouts under guidance. Provide support for design of sub-systems in accordance with industry codes and standards (ASME, IIAR, ASHRAE, TEMA, etc.). Participate in cost estimation and meetings. Create Bills of Material, drawing packages, and support Production teams as needed. Collaborate with the Sales team by assisting with the application, design, and quoting of new compressor packages and chiller systems, ensuring proposals are accurate and meet customer specifications. Help prepare technical documents including inquiries, specifications, and requisitions for purchased equipment. Collaborate with project teams to coordinate orders and resolve technical issues. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Knowledge of pipe routing and assembly arrangement layouts with various sized vessels and support structures. High mechanical aptitude, eagerness to learn and develop drafting and engineering skills. Strong verbal & written communication skills and a collaborative attitude. Interest in exploring automation tools to improve drafting and engineering processes. Comfortable in fabrication/manufacturing environment. Self-led with ability to adapt to changing priorities. Comfortable managing a dynamic workload consisting of multiple, concurrent projects. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field required. Experience with drafting (internships or coursework) is a plus but not required. Basic proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD) and a willingness to learn other design tools. Autodesk Inventor experience is preferred; familiarity with other design software will be considered (e.g., SolidWorks, Revit). Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to access and navigate all areas of construction sites. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
